2555-T erroneously included in taxes even though I clicked "no" on foreign income multiple times. How do I fix this?

I accidentally clicked "yes" on earning foreign income when going through my W-2s for the first time, then realized this was a mistake. I reached the final approval stage and was told I still had an erroneous 2555-T. I have gone back multiple times to un-tick the foreign income box both on my W-2 and in the subsequent questionnaire, but the 2555-T form is still showing up in my tax return and I cannot complete filing. How do I fully remove this form from my taxes?

You can delete the form if you have not reported any foreign income.   Form 2555 (Foreign Earned Income Exclusion) calculates the amount of foreign earned income and/or foreign housing you can exclude from taxation.

Here's how to add—or remove—a Form 2555 or 2555-EZ from your return:

  1. Sign into TurboTax and open or continue your return.
  2. Do a search for foreign income, and then select the Jump to link in the search results.
  3. Continue through the foreign income section until you reach the screen Would You Like to Try and Exclude Your Foreign Earned Income? (if single), or Whose Foreign Income Would You Like to Try and Exclude? (if married). Answer Yes (to add a 2555 or 2555-EZ—we'll figure out which one you need) or No (to remove it), select Continue, and follow any on-screen instructions.

Tip: The -T or -S suffix after the 2555 stands for taxpayer or spouse, respectively.    If you still have issues, try the instructions here.

I had a similar error with the Windows version, except even though I deleted the form, it still gives error messages saying I filled out the form incorrectly and won't let me file the taxes.

It is a good idea to first clear your cache and cookies - which means removing all of the temporary programs that can gum up your web browser.  If that doesn't work, try using a different web browser.

You are probably better off having someone walk through the return with you to look at your entries so I recommend getting live expert help.

However, that requires upgrading your product which may be an expense you don't want.  In that case you can call an expert and ask questions over the phone.
