Is an RMD from an inherited IRA taxable in the State of Michigan if the owner of the IRA never lived or worked in Michigan and there was no deferred income in the State of Michigan?

    A distribution from an inherited IRA is taxable by the state that the beneficiary lives in when the beneficiary receives the distribution. It makes no difference where the original owner lived or worked. If you are the beneficiary of the inherited IRA and you live in Michigan, then you have to pay Michigan tax on the RMDs or any other distributions that you receive.
