Unemployment repayments

I received $2484 in benefits in 2020, then was required to make payments in 2021 of $2070 which I did.  Will I get a credit for those payments? I have not received any forms from the State stating I have a zero balance, but I did confirm it with them by phone today.

Yes, you will get a deduction from your income for 2021 for the amount you repaid in 2021.

All you need to do is select the following:

    • Federal
    • Income
    • Show more next to Unemployment
    • Start next to Unemployment and Paid family leave
    • Walk through the steps to enter your 1099-G for unemployment, but don't enter anything.
    • Keep going until you get to the screen that says Other Uncommon Unemployment Benefits.  Select yes to did you repay benefits for years prior to 2021.
