Thought I entered all relevant information to receive home energy credit for heat pump. Could not find place to enter replacement of electrical panel. Summary indicated no credit available. What gives?

The key is the required code for each manufacturer. The electrical panel does require the necessary code.

It would be best to double check with the manufacturer to be sure you have the correct code. Also, check to see if they did register with the IRS here. Qualified Manufacturer

If you confirm all is correct, be sure your TurboTax software is updated with the latest information.

TurboTax Online will update automatically.

TurboTax Desktop is as follows:

  1. Sign in, select Online in the top left menu bar,
  2. Next, select Check for Updates
  3. TurboTax will update or alert you that you are already up to date

Please add additional information here if you need further assistance and we will help.

I know about the QMID code. Seems like most manufacturers of electrical panels do not have one yet. The problem I encountered was not receiving the credit for the heat pump I had installed even though I had that QMID code until I went to the enabling page and used the same manufacturer code and then things finally showed up.

To enter the replacement of  your electrical panel:

  1. Open your return to the deductions and credits section
  2. Go through the home energy credits until you reach Did you have any of these residential energy property costs in 2025, select yes
  3. In the US, select yes
  4. home energy audit, yes or no
  5. placed in service by you, select yes
  6. continue
  7. continue
  8. Did you install improvements or replacements for enabling property, select yes - it was for your heat pump
  9. continue
  10. select your heat pump and enter the QMID for it
  11. total cost

Take a look at your form 5695. Line 25 to see enabling property is checked, your heat pump is checked, and  the cost you entered for the subpanel work.

I have done all that. However IRS requires a QMID code, part of line 25. I cannot find any QMID code for any electrical panels. Also the installers don't know about QMID codes. Even for the Mitsubishi Mini split that I did find the code for.

 Thank you Barrie

You ever get this resolved?  I filed in March using the IPadOS version. It took it for my Heat Pumps info, without requiring me to check the box for “enabling” equipment. But the IRS removed my credit when I got my refund.

I tried doing an amended return, and now TT is requiring to select it, even though it’s not required for the credit on Heat Pumps, but would be if I was alternately requesting credit for sub panel/panel electrical costs.

Have only filed extension. Know of no rule that requires one to also include enabling equipment to get credit for the heat pump as long as you have a valid QMID for the heat pump. However, note that no major panel vendor (which I installed along with the heat pump) ever filed for a QMID for the panel. I use the desktop TT for windows. On my draft TT, I used the same QMID for my qualified heat pump in the enabling equipment. Will not know what works until I file final.

I just thoroughly read the IRS explanation for this.  Intuit/TT is creating a problem with their program.

panels, etc… for enabling equipment is ONLY required if you are trying to get a refund for the HW and labor associated with that electrical HW and labor.

i totally believe that my refund excluded the $2K I’m owed because of how they electronically submitted the info.  I further believe this, due to not being able to amend the return without having enabling equipment qmid and costs provided.

I can’t even get ahold of the IRS via their line and no way to see status of my mailed dispute. It ridiculous.
