Choose itemized button not working, keeps saying I'm selecting the standard deduction, frustrating!

Finally at the end of taxes but turbo tax won't let me choose my itemized deductions which are far greater, over $24,000, than the standard $13,850 . The system keeps reverting to standard deductions, not what I select or want. I've been working at this for hours and I definitely want my taxes itemized. Why isn't the change selection button working and allowing me to choose?

I have the same issue and have spent so much time on it and it does not work. How can we let Intuit know to fix the issue?

There is one known user interface quirk in the tax year 2025 versions where the "Deductions & Credits" summary page shows a sales tax number, even if it isn't being used for your actual return. To see what is actually happening:

Online: Go to Tax Tools > Tools > View Tax Summary > Preview my 1040. Look at Schedule A, Line 5.
Desktop: Just switch to Forms Mode.

You won't necessarily see the actual result from the input screens or summary page. If you are using a Desktop version, you can check to see what deduction has been used by going to Forms Mode - click Forms at the top of your screen.

From the list of Forms shown on the left of the Forms screen, find and click on Schedule A. There, you can see which items are included in the total for Taxes You Paid, and whether you get the benefit of itemizing your deductions.

If you are using Online, detailed calculation information can be found by navigating to Tax Tools > Tools > View Tax Summary > Preview My 1040 to access the Form 1040 Worksheet. This worksheet, specifically the Tax Smart Worksheet located between lines 15 and 16, provides the in-depth, step-by-step calculations for your tax liability. You will need to have paid for your product in order to see all of the worksheets.
