Can you provide more detail about the exact issue you're experiencing? Have you completed your return and successfully e-filed?  Did you previously have a different amount listed as your refund?  Is it possible that after preparing your taxes, you are not owed a refund?

My refund came out to be one number and still is on the bar but when i click the home tab at the top left corner it says federal refund 0. I claimed my son so i should be owed a refund and if antthing was wrong shouldnt i be notified and not just have changes made without me knowing?

Did you select the option to amend your return? If so, this could be the reason why you are seeing a refund of zero.

To view your federal refund amount on the filing instructions page, please follow these instructions below:

  1. Log into your TurboTax account
  2. Click Add a State( you are not actually adding it this just gets you into the right menu)
  3. Over to the left of screen, click Tax Tools dropdown
  4. Select Print Center
  5. On the Print Center page, select Print, save or preview this year's return
  6. Check 2019 Federal returns, and then select Include government and TurboTax worksheets (optional)
  7. Select View or Print Forms to download your tax return
  8. On the first page of the Electronic Filing Instructions for your 2019 Federal Tax Return, look at the first section entitled Balance Due/ Refund. This section will list your original refund amount and then also, the refund amount minus any Turbo fees.

This is a glitch which doesn't effect your return ... ignore it.

Tax returns can disappear from WMR while they are being processed.

You can try calling the WMR automated hotline instead: 1-800-829-1954 or visit the IRS website.

Here's an article that can also shed some light on this issue.

Please see below.

I hope you are right because they kept blowing up my email so that I can file for taxes this year and all I had was $833 so I just ignored it.Finally I caved in and filed and it came out to zero...I was baffled and upset at the same time, because they hassled the hell out of me for over a month just to tell me Im getting nothing in return for my cooperation.

Hello, I followed the instructions on how to see my balance due/ refund on my amendment but why does it show a lesser amount then when I originally filed?

It sounds like whatever changes you made to your original return when you amended it resulted in a reduction of the original balance due/refund. This commonly occurs when a return is amended.

@Brykuhn0711 Federal and state tax returns are processed by 2 separate entities so one being processed before the other is a usual occurrence. Having said that, if it gets to a point where you believe the federal return is taking unusually long, then you may follow the steps listed here.

If you have already filed your taxes and the refund meter shows zero that is not uncommon. Please see this TurboTax FAQ on why your TurboTax Refund Meter may have changed: Why did the TurboTax Refund Meter change after filing?

To check the amount of your expected refund when you filed with TurboTax please follow the steps below:

  1. Open your return if it's not already open.
    1. On the Tax Home screen, scroll down and select Add a State (don't worry, we're not adding a state) to access your tax forms and worksheets.
    2. In the left menu, select Tax Tools then Print Center.
    3. On the TurboTax Print Center screen, select Print, save or preview this year's return.
    4. On the next TurboTax Print Center screen, select 2020 federal returns and Include Government and TurboTax Worksheets (optional), then select View or Print Forms.
    5. The information will be on the first page, Electronic Filing Instructions for your 2020 Federal Tax Return next to Balance Due/Refund.
    6. You can view the state refund information on the State Electronic Filing instructions.

Mine is doing the same thing. And it's 2021 now... The original federal refund is still the same. And was accepted weeks ago. I didn't even amend it. Now the meter says 0 in the top left. I don't get it. And I'm annoyed.

Refund amount changing to zero during an amendment is standard ; I know that you have mentioned not initiating an amendment however you have stated the original refund is still the same and subsequently stated that it says 0. Please confirm so that we may further assist. In the interim, yoy review the following FAQ in the event that you inadvertently selected to amend your return: How to undo an emended return in Turbo Tax @FuegoDiego9.

When I click on the left side of my screen, it opens a tab where it says "Federal Refund 0" but on my initial federal efile it still says "1729" I don't understand because i never tried to amend it. What's going on? And what's taking the IRS so long to process this stuff?!!!

This has happened to me as well. And I'm past my 21 day period...I called irs to make sure I didn't mess up something and they said to give them up to 10 weeks from acceptance date to process refund because they are so behind from stimulus and such. The green zero...hoping it's a glitch but also the reason I called and waited on hold for my turn for hour and half.

They say I'm getting nothing back and I claimed depends and I made to much money so I get nothing back and I didn't do any of those things because I don't work and I have no depends and I can't be claimed as a dependent.

@Babyteresa1 Please explain.  Who is "they?"   Did you file a 2020 return and get a letter with a list of possible reasons for a reduced refund?   What you are saying sounds like you got the generic IRS letter that lists some of the reasons why you might be getting a smaller refund than you expected.

Can you please provide us with more details so we can assist you? Did you file your taxes, change something in your return, or amend your return?
