The only way you can file an amended return is to mail it.
If you don't mail it, the IRS will never get a copy, so it would be as if you never amended at all.

So I can decide if I want to mail it. I wasn't sure if I amended it online they would know since I did it online. I amended return but there was a small difference but I don't think I want to mail it in.
No information is transmitted from the software to the IRS when you work on an amended return.
The IRS says-“The IRS may correct mathematical or clerical errors on a return and may accept returns without certain required forms or schedules. In these instances, there's no need to amend your return. However, do file an amended return if there's a change in your filing status, income, deductions, or credits. “
If you decide not to mail it and not to amend then you should delete the amended return so it won't transfer into next year.

Scroll down and click on Add a State. This will take you back to the 2019 online tax return.
What should I do once that I clicked on Add a State. I'm trying to cancel an "amended federal return" that was accepted. I don't want to mail it, but I don't know how to remove it. And I also don't know if that's going to affect my California tax return.
How to undo an Amended return
How am I supposed to open my return? also, I can't find the "cancel" button
To open your return back up, you would simply log back into your TurboTax account. If you don't see the "Cancel" button on the left hand menu, try logging out of your TurboTax account, clear cache and delete cookies. Then try logging back into your TurboTax account to see if you can then see the "Cancel" button. Please let us know if this works.
Hello, thanks for the help, but unfortunately, it didn't work. In my "Tax Home" there's a message that says, "Brian, your 2020 amended federal return was accepted" if I go to the menu on the left, there's nothing to cancel it.
To cancel your Amended return, click Amend first, then click Cancel Amend. Please see this TurboTax FAQ, for more information, How do I cancel or undo an amended return in Turbo...
May I ask are you using the TurboTax Mobile app or TurboTax Online? If you are using the mobile app, you would need to sign into you TurboTax account from a browser.
Hello,
I've tried both. The website in my computer, and through my phone using the app. But I can't see any cancel button
After investigating this further for you, I have been informed that since it's been accepted already, you would not be able to cancel or undo the amended return. If you need to make a correction to the amended return, it would essentially be another amended return to fix it back to where it was.
Thanks for answering. Can you please explain what do you mean by "another amended return to fix it back to where it was"?
Because I don't really need to mail it. What if I just don't do anything. Is that going to affect my California tax return?
You can amend the return again, to return the return back where it was.
But what should I write on it? And do I have to mail it? To who? I'm sorry, I'm so confused.
@brianvelapasillas Turbo Tax facilitates the processing of an amended tax return by providing IRS form 1040-X; just follow all the steps in the program and once you get to the end, you will be able to print out your paperwork and the IRS mailing information will also be included. The FAQ below serves as a reference:
What happens if the federal was accepted but I never mailed anything in?
@Jennvic22 You have added on to an old thread and your question is not clear. What did you do? Did you amend your tax return and e-file the the amended return? If you e-filed it and it was accepted you do not have to mail anything. If you amended but did not e-file it and did not mail it, then nothing happens since the amended return did not go anywhere.
