It sounds like you likely chose to pay your TurboTax fees out of your Federal refund.   A bank debit can occur in a couple of situations.     Either your Federal refund has been delayed at the IRS for a prolonged period of time, or the IRS has reduced the refund amount to where it no longer covered the TurboTax fees.

You should have been getting emails asking you to pay as well as a notice that your bank account was about to be debited unless paid.

This FAQ explains more:

Then when the IRS does send your refund they won't take the fees out again.

And, Why you got charged,

You should have received about 4 emails asking for the fees. If you don't pay they will debit your account. You had to agree to it.

Why did you take money from my Rush card without  authorization?

@Olena123  If you chose to pay for your TurboTax fees out of your refund, then you authorized TurboTax to debit your account if TurboTax was not paid within a certain time frame. When you chose to pay out of your refund, you signed extra forms. You should have received notification that the debit would happen in advance.

See Why did you debit my account for complete details.

Turbo Tax took a fee of $270 dollars from my checking account today. It was supposed to come out of my federal refund. I still have not received my refund it says still processing. I went to the help desk and no one was there bc its the weekend. I got a canned answer that said I was sent 3 emails before they just came in and took nearly 300 from me for no services yet rendered. I got exactly ZERO email warnings and I check every day. About to contact my attorney. Someone needs to contact me ASAP.

Sounds like the IRS is taking too long to send your refund or reduced it. See What if the IRS reduces your refund or delays it.

Once the payment has been taken it cannot be undone so contacting TT support will most likely do you no good.

And when you went to file  a code was sent to your email so TT knows the email address they have for you is valid  and you will get all TT notices.  So did they go to SPAM by mistake ?

TurboTax attempted to take $2665 from my account claiming it was what I owed the IRS. However, I don't owe the IRS money... They owe me. I filed my original return but then amended it. I am due a return but the difference between my original and ammended returns is $2665. So TurboTax tried to take it even though I don't owe it. I spoke to 3 different IRS divisions who confirmed they did not attempt to deduct any money from my account because I have no balance with them. They sent me to the ID theft department and they told me TurboTax is who is trying to take this money. I spoke to a rep from TT who hemmed and hawed and initially claimed I agreed to them deducting from my bank if I owed (I never agreed to this) but then switched to "we didn't attempt to deduct this it must be the IRS". It wasn't the IRS. So, either TurboTax has someone stealing people's identities and taking money from accounts or you have people who don't know what they are doing. The rep ultimately hung up on me when I asked to speak to a supervisor. I will never use this service again and I don't recommend anyone else to use it.

First of all my refund was delayed, and secondly never got any notice they would take money out of my account. There was no money in the account so how do you take money that wasn’t even there to start with and why did credit karma let you. This don’t sound right or legal since I only filled out forms never filled , and how do you just take money that’s not even there

They crooked has hell no wonder they want you to put money into credit karma so they can take it even if it’s not in there

I don’t think that’s right because money wasn’t in there to start with so why do you think you have permision to negatively impact me by taken something that’s not yours to take

Paid Turbo $187.00 [order number removed] after filing my taxes. Filing my tax was rejected and had to correct.

Corrected my filings and again paid $90. 00 with your agent telling me my $187.00 will be returned to  my account.

My bank tells me that was not the case.  Return my $187.00.

No one in the user forum can resolve a billing issue.  If you have a question about your TurboTax fees or billing, make sure you use the word “billing” in your request for help.  Do not use the word “refund.”

@cetyler1938   What did you pay $187 for?   And after you filed?  Did you buy the Desktop CD/Download program but had used the Online browser version?  If you bought and installed the Desktop program there are no other fees except to efile a state return.   $187 sounds like too much for either the Online version or the Desktop program.

TurboTax stole 127.44 from and I did  NOT file with them and they are refusing to give me my money back they were not authorized at all to take the money they took linked it to my Apple wallet and stole it. It is theft and I will run the name down until I get my money back. I was told by Intuit turbo tax is not to take money out until I have filed with them and I filed with someone else because although it claimed to be free if I filed by myself they wanted to charge me 127.44 I was not going to do that so I stopped and logged out and went to an accountant instead who charged me 50 and got me the same refund turbo tax was quoting. I want answered as to why TurboTax is refusing my refund of the money they stole from me.

I have been doing my taxes with Turbotax for 7yrs, now 8 this year, and I was forced to upgrade to the deluxe, coming to a total of 118.00 that is being stolen from my federal return. I have never had to do the deluxe or be forced to upgrade to it. I was always fine with the free version, however Turbotax forced me to upgrade in order to finish my taxes, I had no other option to stay with the free version, or opt out of the deluxe upgrade. This will be my last year I use Turbotax. If I don't get a refund or at least a fair compensation, I'm done with y'all. This is stealing money from people. I have submitted the refund twice so far with an email reply saying y'all are unable to do a refund, blah blah blah.. Please give me a refund!!

@okhereisme

NO ONE forced you to file using the TT program ... if you did not like the cost you should have done something before you filed.  There is no refunding of online fees once filed.

You can file with TurboTax Free Edition if you have a simple tax return.*

*A simple tax return is Form 1040 only.

Situations covered in TurboTax Free Edition include:

  • W-2 income
  • Limited interest and dividend income reported on a 1099-INT or 1099-DIV
  • Claiming the standard deduction
  • Earned Income Tax Credit (EIC)
  • Child tax credits
  • Student Loan Interest deduction

Situations not covered in TurboTax Free Edition include:

  • Itemized deductions
  • Unemployment income reported on a 1099-G
  • Business or 1099-NEC income
  • Stock sales
  • Rental property income
  • Credits, deductions and income reported on schedules 1-3

Review your fees to find out why you're being charged. Then, follow the directions to remove any unwanted charge:

If you qualify you can use one of the  8  IRS FREE FILE options (AGI has to be  $79K or less)...  https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free

Yes, I as forced to upgrade. I chose no to the upgrade twice during my working on my taxes, and even had a rep look at my screen with my permission, and she didn't see any reasoning that it was forcing me to upgrade to the deluxe. Turbotax is basically stealing from people.  and anyways, you are?
