My Turbo Tax says my return has been accepted, but the IRS website says it hasn't been? Is this normal?

It simply means that your e-filed return is being processed and that the government hasn't approved or rejected it yet.  Sometimes return status does not update for several days or even longer.

During this time, the government reviews your refund (processing).
During the review process, they look for math errors on your return (extremely rare in TurboTax) and they also check if you owe back taxes, unpaid child support, or other debts.

If they need to make any corrections, they may offset (reduce) your refund. In some cases, the correction might even increase your refund.

Once that part's done, the government approves your refund, which means it's ready to be deposited or sent.

It can take up to 21 calendar days after acceptance for the IRS to issue your refund, although most refunds go more quickly than that, while a small handful may take a bit longer.

But it is now over 60 days, with no refund (of $2514) received, and the IRS's "where's my refund" site saying they have no record of my return ever being filed, despite my Turbotax filing saying that it has been accepted. Please advise.

Check again to make sure your return was accepted.  "Accepted" is not the same as "approved."

Sometimes people get confused by the “summary” given by TurboTax and use the wrong amount for the federal refund.  Make sure you are only using the federal refund amount, and not an amount that combined your federal and state refunds.

Your federal refund amount is on line 20a of your Form 1040

Do TurboTax mail your return if you couldn't efile

@Rashadscott99

 No.

TurboTax does not ever mail your return for you.   If you choose to file by mail then YOU have to print it, sign it and mail it yourself.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

@Brandonpaulcarpenter1    You posted to a really old thread that has posts from multiple people.  So what "exact" same problem are you having?  We cannot tell.

I’m having the same problem. Turbo says refund was accepted but irs.gov says still being processed. I did mine in February and it’s been over 30 days. I’ve gotten my state but not federal. I’ve done called but due to COVID they are short staffed and I just go a recording. So idk what to do.

Only the IRS would know why your return is still processing. TurboTax does not get any information about your return or refund once your return is accepted.

Since it has been over 21 days you can call the IRS for information.

The IRS telephone number is 1-800-829-1040, and they are available from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday thru Friday. The best time to call is early in the morning.

- The first question the automated system will ask you is to choose your language.
- Once you’ve set your language, do NOT choose Option 1 (regarding refund info). Choose option 2 for “Personal Income Tax” instead.
- Next, press 1 for “form, tax history, or payment”.
- Next, press 3 “for all other questions.”
-Next, press 2 “for all other questions.”
- When the system asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, do NOT enter anything.
-After it asks twice, you will be prompted with another menu.
-Finally, press 2 for personal or individual tax questions. The system should then transfer you to an agent.

@JoeLee You have to wait 24 hours after acceptance before being able to track your refund on the IRS website. Be sure when checking Where’s My Federal Refund? site that you are entering only your Federal refund amount. This can be found on your Federal form 1040, line 21a. Also if you paid any fees out of your federal refund, use the refund figure prior to the deduction of he fees. If you are filing joint, be sure to enter the filers information that appears first on the return.

It’s been over a month. I’ve gotten my state but not federal. So I checked it and it says still being processed. I’ve called and they are closed. I don’t know what to do now.

Processing simply means that the IRS is working on your return, it is the stage after accepted and before being approved.   Here is more information on what's happening with your return

@JoeLee Frustrating as it may be, all you can do is wait while the short-staffed IRS tries to process millions of tax returns while also trying to send out millions of stimulus checks.  TurboTax will not receive any further updates about the status of your refund.  The IRS site is your source of information.

Filed taxes late this year back on April 10th. Status via TurboTax is currently stuck on 'Accepted'. Tried to get the information in there due to making sure the IRS has my current bank details on file. I can confirm Turbo DID submit my return as it is currently under processing with the IRS. However, I am unable to update the payment details nor am I able to confirm if they have the correct information on file. I've tried creating an account and seeing what was already there to possibly modify the details but it does not recognize my information. I've tried for about an hour going back and forth making sure what I submitted was corrected since the IRS is very meticulous about details. Still no luck there. So now I'm concerned. Mostly about the Covid Stimulus payment. Should I instead use the tool the IRS provided to add direct deposit info? Or should I wait for them to process my return which in turn will provide them with my current financial institution details? Due to Covid I'm unsure how long this could take due to being short staffed and overwhelmed. What if I miss the stimulus check window? Need advice ASAP! Thank you.

I’m having the same issue. I filed on April 5th and within 24 hours I received an email confirming my tax return was accepted by both federal and state. Many people I know received their COVID-19 stimulus today. I did not. I checked the IRS tool and it said payment status not available. I then went to check to see what my refund status was and after downloading the app it said “Information does not match or not found”. I tried with both mine and my husband’s info. I also made sure I used, verbatim, the correct information listed on my tax return. I still keep getting the same error. I checked my states refund status site and it said my refund was processing and I filed together, so my federal taxes were definitely sent. When I spoke to someone earlier (I was so panicked, I called) they explained that the irs website and database was possibly backed up due to the Covid-19 stimulus and due to many people filing to ensure 2019 taxes would be used instead of 2018. My status also changed, going from single to married, so she stated this also might have be an issue. All I was told was “eventually”, but no time line or clear explanation this is happening. All I can say is I’m relieved that I’m not the only one experiencing this. Hopefully it will be addressed in the next few days either through here or publicly in some manner.

@Lhunt2688 "Accepted" does not mean approved.

Waiting is frustrating—refunds are taking longer in many cases.  These are not normal times.  It is not possible for TurboTax to speed up the IRS for you.  It seems to be taking longer than usual for them to process returns.  They are short staffed; and they are processing millions of tax returns at the same time that they have been burdened with the task of processing millions of stimulus checks.  The IRS is not taking calls right now.

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 20 of your Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

To track your state refund:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433-how-do-i-track-my-state-refund

On the IRS site you are also offered the use of an app called IRS2Go

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1901548-why-do-some-refunds-take-longer-than-others

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

You will get it.  But if it shows as Accepted in TurboTax but you can't find it on the IRS site, that means the IRS is reviewing something on it.   They are currently not processing paper filed or return needing manual reviews (yours).   As soon as they resume normal operations, which will hopefully be soon, processing of these returns will be completed.

I am having a similar issue. I filed February 11, 2020 and it was “accepted” on Turbo tax. When I go to my IRS account it says my 2019 taxes have not been processed. I haven’t gotten any money back. It’s been almost 5 months now and I can’t get ahold of an IRS rep due to covid-19.

What does this mean?
