Make sure when checking your refund status on the Where's My Refund? site, to only enter your federal income amount, not federal and state combined. Another important factor can be if you are married filing jointly and make sure you are using the Social Security Number for the name that appears first on the return.
If your return was accepted and the information is being entered correctly in WMR and still no status, the IRS website only updates once a day, usually during the overnight hours, I would check back to see if it has updated, this is normal.
Here is the general timeline of e-filed returns:
Transmission > Acceptance > Processing > Approval > Refund.
If you claimed Earned Income Tax Credit (EIC) and/or Additional Child Tax Credit, this may be the reason for the delay, due to the Path Act. The IRS started issuing tax refunds on returns with the EIC or Additional Child Tax Credit on February 27, 2019. If this is not the case, I have listed some additional reasons your refund may be taking longer.
Even though the IRS issues 9 out of 10 tax refunds within 21 days, it's possible your return may require additional review and take longer to process.
For some taxpayers, PATH Act requirements and other identity-protection safeguards implemented by the IRS may account for longer wait times.
Other things that can delay your refund include but are not limited to:
Also, if you chose direct deposit, your financial institution may need another day or two to post the refund to your account, so keep that in mind.
You can contact the IRS directly and see if they can give you any details on your tax return status:
Please call 800-829-1040 and do the following:
1. Press 1 for English listen to the recorded message
2. Press 2 for answers about personal income taxes listen to the recorded message
3. Press 1 for questions about a form you already submitted
4. Press 3 for all other questions
5. Press 2 for all other questions
6. Enter your social or ein confirm type (social or ein) and confirm if the number is right by pressing 1
7. Listen to all options then it will say if you have not heard your topic please hold
8. Next, it will say if you owe money and agree with the amount press 1
You will then be transferred to a representative after a general message from the IRS
(Note: If call volume is too high they will ask you to call back)

Waiting for what--a Federal refund?
What filing status was used for the return?? Why did you say "my wife" has been waiting and mentioned her W-2? Did you and she file separate returns; i.e., is the filing status married filing separately?
Only the IRS can tell you anything about any delay with a return, but we can tell you some things to check first.
Did she efile, or did she choose to print and mail the return? If she filed by mail, it can take about 6 weeks to get a Federal refund.
If she efiled, double-check to be sure the return was efiled successfully and accepted.
If she used Online TurboTax, she can sign into the Online Account she used and check the efile status at the Tax Home.
If the Tax Home shows it was accepted, she can use the "Where's My Refund" tool at the IRS website below to monitor the status of her Federal refund.
https://www.irs.gov/Refunds
NOTE: When using that tool, use only the Federal refund amount, and not any total refund amount that includes a state refund.
The amount to use is on the Federal Form 1040, Line 21a.
If the IRS tool says it is still being processed, then if it's been longer than 21 days since an efiled return was accepted, here's how to reach a live IRS agent to inquire about the delay, although they are extremely busy due to all the stimulus questions on top of tax-filing questions:
IRS: 800-829-1040 (7AM-7 PM local time) Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do not choose the first choice re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.

Only the IRS can tell you anything about any delay with a return, but we can tell you some things you should check first. I'll give you some tips below on why you may not be finding it at "Where's My Refund."
If you filed by printing and mailing, the IRS has not been processing paper mailed returns the last few weeks due to the Coronavirus pandemic. They may be gradually restarting but will have a backlog to process once they resume processing of paper returns. If you filed by mail, then you have to do the printing and mailing; TurboTax does not do it for you.
If you efiled, double-check to be sure the return was efiled successfully and accepted.
If you used Online TurboTax, you can sign into the Online Account you used and check the efile status at the Tax Home.
If the Tax Home shows it was accepted, you can use the "Where's My Refund" tool at the IRS website below to check on the status of your Federal refund.
https://www.irs.gov/Refunds
NOTE: When using that tool, be sure to enter the correct SSN and filing status. For the refund amount use only the Federal refund amount, and not any total refund amount that includes a state refund.
The amount to use is on the Federal Form 1040, Line 21a.
If the IRS tool says it is still being processed, here's how to normally reach a live IRS agent to inquire about the delay, although for the last few weeks they have been mostly closed due to the Coronavirus situation. Some of their call centers have gradually started reopening as the pandemic improves, so if you do get through, expect a long wait with all the calls they are getting about delayed refunds and stimulus check issues.

I have called the number it keeps telling me we have high call volume’s and hangs up on me. I check the where’s my refund it says still processing and I am set up for direct deposit and was told by TurboTax all my papers were accurate. What else can I do to find out where my money is? Please email me at [removed] @gmail if you have info
@Felisha42 Due to the ongoing effects of the pandemic, the IRS is experiencing delays and high call volume. Additionally, although the IRS provides a guideline of 21 days to release most refunds, some refunds take longer to process based on various reasons including certain credits claimed. The FAQ below serves as a reference:
It has been 38 days since my tax return was excepted, I have not received my refund of 4140, as of today
03/21/21. I check the IRS website a few times a day and all it says that it is still processing, no other information
other than that. I have called the number given to contact the IRS and the number it says this number is disconnected.
I need that refund soon like 2 weeks ago.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Leah

Same. I start calling at 7:00 am and all throughout the day. I either that they are busy from the get to go or get through all the steps and they end up saying they are busy or sometimes it won't even dial. I have never had this isseue!
The IRS is experiencing delays in the processing of returns due to a later than usual start to the tax season, a backlog of mailed returns, current tax season returns, and stimulus payments. Please also see this post here by ToddL99 for further explanation of why returns are delayed.

What kind of check? Did you elect to receive a Federal tax refund by paper check in postal mail? Are you sure the IRS has finished processing your tax return and that a refund check has been mailed? What is showing at this IRS WMR tool?
Or are you referring to a separate stimulus check that is being mailed to you?
@12Jackoson When you go to Where's My Refund, it will either tell you your return is processing or you have a payment scheduled. What does it say?
You must enter the primary SSN, filing status, and the gross amount of the refund. You may also call IRS at (800) 829-4477.
For stimulus, check Get My Payment or call 800-919-9835.

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted?
Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.
You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large Orange button labeled "
Transmit my returns now
".
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund. Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.
To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product.
If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433-how-do-i-track-my-state-refund
After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.
The IRS is seriously behind in processing 2020 tax returns. This is due to many factors, such as the pandemic, completing processing of millions of 2019 tax returns, stimulus payments, unemployment compensation exclusion tax refunds., changes in the tax code by Congress in the middle of the 2020 tax season and the like.
Millions of taxpayers have not yet received there federal tax refunds.
Go to this IRS website for operational status - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue
The IRS is opening mail within normal timeframes and all paper and electronic individual returns received prior to April 2021 have been processed if the return had no errors or did not require further review. As of September 18, 2021, we had 7.8 million unprocessed individual returns. Unprocessed individual returns include tax year 2020 returns such as those requiring correction to the Recovery Rebate Credit amount or validation of 2019 income used to figure the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). This work does not require us to correspond with taxpayers but does require special handling by an IRS employee so, in these instances, it is taking the IRS more than 21 days to issue any related refund and in some cases this work could take 90 to 120 days. If, as a result, a correction is made to any RRC, EITC or ACTC claimed on the return, the IRS will send taxpayers an explanation. Taxpayers are encouraged to continue to check Where’s My Refund? for their personalized refund status and can review Tax Season Refund Frequently Asked Questions.
What you should do: In most instances, no further action is needed but you may check Where’s my refund or you can view your account. If you filed electronically and received an acknowledgement, you do not need to take any further action other than promptly responding to any requests for information. If you filed on paper, check Where’s my refund? If it tells you we have received your return or are processing or reviewing it, we are processing your return, but it may be under review. We’re working hard to get through the backlog. Please don’t file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.
