CP301 is sent to verify that you’ve registered for an IRS online service.
If you haven’t, you need to immediately call the number on the notice to disable your account. See Understanding Your CP301 Notice for more information.
Typically, when the IRS suspects that a tax return with your name on it may be the result of identity theft, the agency will send you a special letter, called a 5071C Letter.
Please see the TurboTax article Tips for Handling Identity Verification Requests From the IRS for more information.
I submitted my tax on July 25, 2020. I resubmitted it again on 01/14/2021 the tax check should be for $960. I was in the hospital for two months. I did not get my income tax return. Which keep me from getting the $600 or the $1400 checks. Can someone help me resolve my issues?
Due to the ongoing effects of the pandemic, the IRS is experiencing delays which includes many 2019 tax returns (filed in 2020). You may check your e-file status here and track any anticipated refunds here. Should you need further assistance, I am including contact information for both Turbo tax and the IRS below:
ITS A CIRCLE JERK !!
Looked up the problem on Redditt and its a continuous non resolution circle of:
getting mailed an activation code
trying to log in to get to the point where you enter code
takes you through entire process of entering the data you did previously
then getting a new activation code mailed
I am sitting here with a letter that has the activation code
- but I guess its pointless?
@browntbdd If you are trying to activate your online account, you just enter it once, it matches and you move on with life. If you wait too long and miss the deadline, then you have to start over.
If you did not request it, this must be reported as somebody is trying to establish an account in your name. See CP 301 for more information.
I did request the activation letter
it came today
i followed the directions within the letter to a T
I never , ever was allowed to get to a page that simply had me enter the verification/activation code that my Govt agency spent time , money and effort to snail mail to me
in trying to resolve this ridiculous conundrum, I found many online who are stuck in the exact same unresolving loop
You're right. I am trying to remember, I had to help a family member get to it. I think he was clicking on a different link from what he had been trying to get originally. Try them all here.
Good luck!
You only need the activation code if the software requests it during installation or anytime after. I recommend that you keep it handy along with the tax year information.
I’m not sure what this means.. can someone please explain this letter to me.. I owe u guys for completing my taxes that I haven’t received yet
