It looks like you are posting from the Free Edition, which does not support entering unemployment --- so you have to upgrade to Deluxe.

UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION

Unemployment compensation is taxable on your federal return.

You will have to enter a 1099G that is issued by your state.

Some states will mail out the 1099G.  Or you might need to go to your state’s unemployment website and use the password, etc. that you have been using to certify for weekly benefits to get your 1099G from the state’s site.

Enter your 1099G in Federal>Wages & Income>Unemployment

Go through the screens very carefully, making sure  to enter any federal/state tax you had withheld from the unemployment.

You report your unemployment compensation on Schedule 1 of your federal tax return in the Additional Income section. The amount will be carried to the main Form 1040. Remember to keep all of your forms, including any 1099-G form you receive, with your tax records.

You will need to upgrade to Deluxe to be able to enter your unemployment information.  The Free Edition does not support unemployment payments.

Where do I report a 1099-G for unemployment or paid family leave?

Important: If your 1099-G shows an amount in box 2go here for alternate instructions, as the steps below won't work.

If you're using the TurboTax mobile app, follow these instructions.

If you received unemployment payments or took paid family leave, enter your 1099-G info.

Unemployment compensation and paid family leave are entered in the same place:

  1. Open or continue your tax return
  2. Search for 1099-G and select the Jump to link at the top of the search results
  3. On the Did you or Spouse receive unemployment or paid family leave benefits? screen, answer Yes
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to enter your 1099-G information

You can  type  unemployment   into the search box at the top of your return and hit find.  It should give you a Jump To link to take you right to it.

Or Enter a 1099G for unemployment under

Federal on left

Wages & Income at top

Unemployment - Click the Start or Update Button
