I had to do an amended tax return this year, I sent in my amended tax return to the IRS in February on the 10th of 2020. When I check the IRS website it says that my information does not match, now I can't talk to a live person at the IRS due to this whole virus thing happening.
I have gotten my state tax return just not my federal, would this also impact my stimulus check deposit?
As long as you meet the qualifications for the stimulus payment you will get it. As you might imagine things are very fluid at the moment, but your returns will be processed and all payments will be made. Here is a link with information on the qualifications.
For the stimulus check, do I need to have already received my federal tax return? I have already received my state return, but for my federal I had to send in an amended return.
No, but did you include direct deposit information on your original and/or amended return?
Yes, I did. Is that all I would need? When I submitted my state tax return with TurboTax I put my direct deposit information in and I have received my state tax return.
Just to make sure, the stimulus check would not need the federal return to be deposited directly into my bank account? The state return is fine as all I would need if I didn't have both already?
No, the refund does not need to have already occurred for the IRS to have your direct deposit information.
You might also use "Get My Payment"
The IRS is launching “Get My Payment” where you can track your stimulus payment as well as update banking information if your payment has not yet been issued.
It is slated to be active April 17th.
Alright, thank you.
I have one more question, for my 2018 tax return, I lived in a different state from where I live now. My 2018 tax return was filed in TN as opposed to where I live now in CT. Back in TN, I had a different bank that I had my 2018 tax return direct deposited to. For my 2019 tax return, I filed in CT with my new bank. While I got my state return from CT I did not get my federal and had to do an amended tax return.
My question is would this stimulus check go by my 2018 tax return and thus go to my old bank which I no longer use or the stimulus check use the 2019 tax return and be deposited into my bank I have now in CT, even though I only have gotten my state return so far.
The stimulus process will use the most current return filed. Even though you are amending, your original return for 2019 is on file.
I have just checked with the "Get my payment" application on the IRS website, I have typed in my information and the result is that my tax information does not match. Now I am totally unsure of what to do. This is for the stimulus check.
I have a question. On my tax return I mark that I that someone would able to claim me as a dependent but my mother didn't claim me as a dependent on her tax return can I still get a stimulus check
Its been more than 24 hours since I last checked the "get my payment tool" for the IRS site. It tells me that the information does not match. Yet people are getting their stimulus checks. I am starting to think I made a mistake using turbotax as my tax filing product. The software also didn't tell me that I was missing anything when I first filed for the year.
Now its been nearly a day since the last responses from the employees @DMarkM1 @KrisD15 even replied to my forum post.
The "Get my Payment Tool" is only updated once per day, it has also only been active one day - so there has been only one update so far. If the tool does not yet have your data, it doesn't mean it was missing on your tax return or that there is a problem. It simply indicates your data isn't in the tool yet.
The method that you use to file your taxes does not affect when (or if) you receive an Economic Impact Payment.
Many taxpayers have not yet received payments - there has only been one round of them distributed so far, with several more to come.
@TimL1408 TurboTax Employee Tax Expert SusanY1 is correct.

@Sflentroy Probably not. Check the rules to see if you really are independent in the eyes of the IRS.
Check 2019 Publication 501 Dependents, Standard Deduction, and Filing Information on page 4 for the very basics and page 11 (the chart is quickly readable) to determine if you are or are not qualified to be a dependent as a qualifying child or as a qualifying relative.
If you truly are not a dependent and would not have qualified to be claimed as a dependent, whether or not you were claimed does not matter, then: file an amended federal and state return.
The amended return is submitted through the mail and would have taken at least 16 weeks to process in the past. It is best to pay extra to the mail carrier to send the tax return(s) certified mail so you have proof. Click the link for instructions: How to amend (change or correct) a return you already filed.
However, due to the unprecedented demand on the IRS resources at the present time, they made an announcement April 14, 2020 that they will not be processing any paper filed returns until the stimulus payments are finished. See IRS urges taxpayers to use electronic options; outlines online assistance.
Hey so I have the same exact issue but this year I randomly decided to go to jackson hewit. Basically online from there sit it shows in supposed to enter my amended return amount n my agi. I got locked out today so ima try tomorrow hopefully this helps.
Also amended returns are checks I think that's why we didn't get the direct deposit yet we have to put it in cus our recent return was an amendment. But I did not put I can be claimed as a dependent. I'm unsure if that affects anything.
Alright its been 24 hours of me without checking the IRS site. I again typed in my information and I show up as my information not coming up as matching. I am not even sure what is going on anymore.
I just get "try again later"
When I first filed my taxes this year with turbo tax I had both my federal and state accepted, my federal had to be amended but my state was deposited before my federal. When I check the IRS site now, it says that my information does not match the tax records.
For the stimulus check, it says that my information does not match the tax information that the IRS has on file. So what does the IRS have on file for this year? I am confused. Did turbo tax make a mistake or did the IRS make a mistake?
How does the IRS not have my current tax information on file for this year? How does it not match in their database when one of the refunds were deposited already into my current bank account.
hey so I did it n i got it but cus of what jh had it looks like they had an employee enter my amended refund amount I tried that it did not work I used there agi tho n if you look on your 1040x line 18 thats yur original refund amount before fees I used that number n my bank info n thank god i finally got it hopefully that helps
I don't get that far. I can't even get past the part where it says my information is wrong on the "get my payment" page.
@KathrynG3 @SusanY1 @DMarkM1 @KrisD15
I finally got information on my stimulus check. I am happy to tell you that expert @KrisD15 was wrong and my stimulus check was not sent to my 2019 direct deposit where the IRS had on file. Even though I used Turbo Tax to file and I have indeed received my state refund to my bank where I filed through Turbo Tax in 2019.
Even though I filed through Turbo Tax in 2019 the IRS sent two payments to two different accounts. One which was closed and one which was just updated for this year. Who's to blame? Turbo Tax or the IRS? I think both.
