Question

Changing from mailing in to efile

I've already finished my taxes but it wouldn't allow me to efile because we are in the military and now live in a foreign country. I found out that if I use our PO Box for the military that it will allow me to efile but how do I go in and change all of that? I haven't mailed my taxes in yet. I tried changing the address to our PO Box but it's still not working. Why does Turbo Tax make this so hard? I've looked it up on the AI assist as well but it keeps saying to click on file and there is no file tab in TT. I refuse to pay when my taxes are already completely done. I am tempted to just use another site and redo them if no one can help me do this.

Click on My Info on the left side of the online program screen.

Click on Address and Phone

Click on Revisit

On the box labeled Type of mailing address

On the dropdown select Military (APO, FPO, or DPO)

Enter your address.  If entered correctly with a APO, FPO or DPO state and zip code you can e-file.

If you initially selected to file by mail, TurboTax thought you'd completed the return and was protecting against re-entering the return and posting something incorrectly.

To re-enter TurboTax

Log back in.

  1. Select Tax Home
  2. Click Add a State (We won't‌ do it, but it'll get us back in.)
  3. Select My Info
  4. Your information will show up
  5. Click the arrow to the right of your name
  6. [Revisit]
  7. Use the interview to change your address.
  8. Once this is complete, you can go back to the File option
  9. Continue through the steps and choose Efile instead of File by Mail.

@shesthemann Thank you for your service
