    First of all---you do not use the process to "amend" in order to just fix a rejected tax return.  You only use "amend" to make corrections to a tax return that has been accepted and fully processed by the IRS.  This is done  on a special form 1040X.   Hopefully you did not use 1040X to just add an IP PIN.

    So perhaps you are just mis-stating when you say you "amended" and mean that you just added the PIN.   You cannot e-file a 2023 rejected return.  E-filing is permanently closed for 2023.   The only way for you to file it now is by mail.  Print it, sign and date it in ink, and mail it.

    When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

    Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

    @Lina0283

    Did you mistakenly prepare a Form 1040X just to correct a rejected return?  If so, you should not have used "amend" as a way to fix that rejected return.

    Did you understand what was said to you regarding "amending?"    If your 2023 e-file was rejected, using or clicking on the word "amend" was not the way to fix the return.  You do not prepare a Form 1040X to just fix a rejected return.    You simply make the correction to the original return and try to e-file it again within the filing period for the return.   If you did not do that by end of October 2024, you cannot e-file it.   It has to be mailed.

    A "fixed" original return is not the same as an amended return on a Form 1040X.   If you send in a Form 1040X just for a missing IP PIN, the IRS is going to send the return back to you and ask you for your original return.  They will not process a 1040X if they did not receive an original Form 1040 from you.

    You are correct because TurboTax has a webpage

    https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/e-file-1040x-amend-return/L9tXL1Nuh_US_en_US

    that states 2023, 2024, and 2025 (2025 1040-x can't be efiled as of now because the form i s not ready) amended returns can be e-filed. When taxpayers have issues, it seems support is clueless. Thus, they are unable to e-file. The page does warn that there may be certain situations where you can't e-file

    It used to be that filers only had until the extended due date for that year to e-file an amended return. After that, TurboTax closed e-filing for that year. You'll note the date on the page as January 2026. So this is a recent change. Don't know what to tell you because maybe an update is needed, which may never come.

    No I'm correct why would I amend my taxes just to update my pin I'm not stupid as I stated I amended my 2023 taxes I had info that needed to be corrected I didn't report an item correctly fas as number wise ( I have my documents to support the change ) so that why I amended my return  it let me e-file because as stated several places it states if u successfully efiled the return for that year you will be able to amend it and efile because that's how I originally filed my return my point is it was rejected the rejected reason was I didn't add my pin number
