Will not import my 2020 tax return. It will only import my 2019 tax return.

Turbo tax only recognizes a file with .tax2019 and not .tax2020.  I want to import last years data in order to prepare my return for 2021.

Sounds like you are in the 2020 program.   Go up to Help-About.   Or it might say 2020 at the top.   Did you buy and install the 2021 program?

You do NOT import or open the .tax2020 file in the 2021 program ... you TRANSFER it ...

Sorry, I used the wrong term.  I did not open the 2019 file.  I was trying to transfer the file.  Turbo tax gave me the option of only transferring the 2019 renter and it would not let me transfer the 2020 return.  Sorry for the confusion.

So, when you start the 2021 TurboTax program and click on the blue button Start a New Return or go to the File menu and click on New Tax Return the following screen only shows 2019 tax files to transfer and Not 2020 tax files as shown in the this screenshot -

I downloaded it and moved it to the applications file on my mac.  I then opened it.  It seemed fine.  I have used Turbo Tax for years.  I clicked on New Tax Return in the dropdown File menu.  I got a screen that said Hi, Welcome to TurboTax!  I clicked on Begin, which was highlighted.  I got a screen:  Let's Get a Jumpstart on Your 2020 Taxes.  I chose:   Use a tax return that's on my computer, Choose a return below and select Continue to transfer.  The two items that I could choose had the ending .tax2019.  My computer has the 2020 return with the ending .tax2020.  I could not select this 2020 file, which is my problem.

Well obviously you opened the 2020 program.  Maybe you bought 2020 by accident instead of 2021? Or you downloaded 2020 from your account again instead of 2021?  Does your download account look like this screen shot a user posted?  https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/re-when-will-desktop-turbo-tax-for-tax-year-2021-be-available/01/2383304#M850837

Or you opened the wrong program on your Mac if you still had 2020 installed from last year.

Better call in and see if you have the right download in your account or if the 2021 download is pointing to the wrong year.

Try starting a totally new FAKE return and then switch to the FORMS mode ... are you seeing the 2020 or 2021 form 1040?
