Why is there a 45$ charge for "Premium Service Benefits" when I'm already going to 60 for an upgrade I don't want.

I tried to finish filing but you're system won't allow me to do anything student related without buying the "deluxe" package.  A package that's so deluxe in helping me that when I go to finish up, there's *another* 45 dollars in "Premium Service Benefits" on top of the 60 for the "upgrade" that I'd be buying in the first place.

With my CA return it's 150 dollars to use you guys. I don't care about the 50/state, fine.

It does not appear to be possible to opt out of those additional services, is there a way to fork over the 60 for deluxe and not be forced to also fork over another 45 for things I will literally never use?

If you are eligible use the TurboTax Free File Program.  Your tax data will transfer over to the FFP when you sign on.

Use the TurboTax Free File program if you are eligible - https://freefile.intuit.com/
If you are eligible you can use the TurboTax Free File Program which is free to file both a federal and state tax return. The Free File Program edition is a full featured personal tax program and on a separate website from the TurboTax online editions.

To qualify for free 2019 federal and state tax returns with the Free File Program, you'll need to meet at least one of these requirements:

  • A maximum 2019 adjusted gross income (AGI) of $36,000; or
  • You qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC); or
  • You served as active duty military (including Reservists and National Guard) with a maximum 2019 AGI of $69,000 (you'll also need a military-issued W-2).

Holy crap I found it after like 2 hours.

Man you guys always pull this kind of crap, if it wasn't for the fact you lobbied against the government taking over tax returns, you'd be so dead in the water. Can't wait tbh.

Side note I know customer service folks have 0 say in anything so my comments are never at yall.

You can review your fees by following the instructions below.

  1. After signing in to TurboTax, open or continue your return.
  2. Select Tax Tools on the left side of the screen and then Tools.
  3. A Tools Center box will pop up on your screen.
  4. Select the My Fees box on the right.

If your TurboTax fees are higher than expected, you can reduce them by removing add-ons:

Avoid the "Premium Services" by paying for your TurboTax fees BEFORE you e-file-----use a credit or debit card.  Do not choose to pay TurboTax by having the fees deducted from your federal refund.   When you choose to pay from your federal refund, you are choosing that extra $45 refund processing fee that goes to a third party bank.
