It could be due to many reasons.  Without seeing your tax return, it is hard to say.  It could be you did not withhold enough taxes with your employer or you might not have answered some of the questions correctly thus miss certain credits and deductions.

I would suggest you consider our new product / features TurboTaxLive to file your 2019 taxes.  This way you could have one of our tax professionals to take a look at your tax return.

In the TurboTax program, once you complete your taxes, before you file, you’ll be given the option for a final review of your return by one of our tax professionals.  After they completed reviewing your return, they’ll inform you of any proposed changes.

I e filed through turbo tax, both federal and stste. Both were accepted. I ordered returns on turbo debit card. I received card in mail and activated card, when I checked balance it showed 0.00. I know they returns were filed and accepted but were they paid. Will funds be placed on card?

Any refunds that are released by either the IRS or your state will be applied to your Turbo Visa Debit Card if you requested they be applied that way when you filed your tax return. Accepted is one of the first steps of the process. The funds will not be released until they are fully processed, approved and sent.

For more on the timing of your refund please see this TurboTax FAQ.

When your tax return is accepted by the IRS you can get a pretty good idea of when you will receive your tax refund from the IRS based on acceptance date in the chart with the article link provided below, but please remember these are only estimates:  https://www.cpapracticeadvisor.com/tax-compliance/news/21123770/chart-shows-estimated-irs-income-tax-refund-dates-for-2020. It takes about 21 days to receive your refund from the IRS when you e-file and choose direct deposit as your refund choice. Check your refund status here.

Now, if you claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) you may have a delay.

Please see this TurboTax FAQSome 2019 federal refunds are delayed due to the PATH Act for more information.

To check on a state refund please visit your state Department of Revenue website.

I've submitted my 2019  taxes with turbtax this March 2020, both my fed and state taxes were confirmed and accepted. However when I look at the options on the top left it shows $0 for a federal return? It makes no sence.

Then 10 days later just recieved a email saying changes have been made to my taxes, now my state taxes are showing $0 according to turbotax.

So I call turbo and the automated womens voice is saying federal taxes are accepted?!?!?!?!?!?!

but don't say a word about my state? Yet turbotaxs application is confirming both fed and state are allset in 21 days I should recieved both fed and state.

Nothing's making sence, am I getting my  taxes or what turbotax.

TurboTax does not receive updates from the IRS once they have accepted your return. The IRS issues most refunds in about 21 days, although some returns take more time to review. To find out where your refund is, first check your e-file status. If it's been processed and accepted, you can begin to track your refund at the IRS Where's My Refund? site.  You'll need your Social Security number or ITIN, filing status, and the exact amount of your refund to check your status. The IRS will issue your refund when your return is approved.

If it has been more than 21 days since your return was accepted,  You will need to contact the IRS  at 1-800-829-1040 and follow the prompts for a live representative. The person that you speak with will have direct access to your tax return and be able to provide you with a status update.

When you call, make sure you have the following information:

  • tax year
  • social security number
  • filing status
  • exact refund amount

Please click When will I get my IRS tax refund? to learn more.

Each state handles its own refunds Please click the TurboTax help link, listed below, to learn how to track your State return.

Please contact the IRS for any questions about your refund. The IRS processes your refund.

The IRS asks that you call them at these numbers:

  • For individuals: 800-829-1040
  • For businesses: 800-829-4933
  • For those with hearing impairments: TTY/TDD 800-829-4059

To have an efficient call, here's what you need to prepare.

@Maverly    Did you start the amendment process ?    If so the refund-o-meter should reset to zero.

@Maverly No one can see your screen, your tax return or your account.   Where are you seeing that it is reduced to zero?   On the TT site, or on the IRS site?
