Why am I being charged to submit my Virginia tax return?

You are posting from online Deluxe.  When you use online TurboTax there are separate fees for federal and state returns that you prepare and file.

If your TurboTax fees are higher than expected, you can reduce them by removing add-ons:

 

• Remove Premium Services
• Remove MAX Defend & Restore
• Remove a state
• Remove PLUS Help & Support
• Remove Pay With Your Refund

 

 

If you do not want to pay to file VA you may be able to delete the state return here and use the VA tax site instead.

In Online Deluxe and higher the state is an extra separate charge to prepare whether you efile or print and mail.  How to review your fees

It is a law that you can file your federal taxes free.  That does not apply to states.  Some states (like mine, GA) charge you to file electronically.  GA will be happy to take that fee out of your refund for an extra $40, if you do not want to charge it to your credit card lol.

If you don't want to pay to file your state taxes, file your federal taxes electronically through TT, and print and mail in your state taxes. (Do fork over extra for certified mail).
