I ordered and paid for turbotax desktop because the contact person from turbotax said It would let us do certain things that turbotax online was not doing. As it turned out I found it too complicated and with the deadline upon me I finished the return using the online version. The contact from turbotax said she would send me a link to get a refund but i never got it.

What do I do now?

Only customer support can resolve a billing issue.  Use the word "billing" in your request for help--not "refund."

How can I file 2020 taxes if my 2019 paper return is not yet processed by   Irs ?    I have a refund carryover to 2020.

@alolivere

No one will be filing a 2020 tax return until 2021.  The 2020 software is not yet available.

Did you file your 2019 tax return?

There are a lot of delays for 2019 federal refunds.  Did you mail your return or e-file?

If you mailed it:

MAILED RETURNS

The IRS has just started to work through millions of mailed returns that have been piling up in trailers during the pandemic.  All you can do is watch the IRS refund site to see when your return makes it to the surface and goes into processing. Sorry.

Per the IRS website IRS Operations During COVID-19: Mission-critical functions continue:

IRS operational status and alternatives

Processing Delays for Paper Tax Returns: Taxpayers should file electronically through their tax preparer, tax software provider, or IRS Free File

We’re experiencing delays in processing paper tax returns due to limited staffing. If you already filed a paper return, we will process it in the order we received it.

Do not file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.

If  you mail a tax return (or a payment) to the IRS, it is a good idea to use a mailing service that will track it like UPS or certified mail so you will know it was received.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.

TurboTax will not know anything about your mailed return, and will continue to show “Ready to Mail” on your account.  TurboTax will not know that you put your tax return in an envelope and took it to a mailbox.  TurboTax does not get updates on mailed  (or e-filed) returns.

When the IRS finally opens its mail and begins to process mailed returns you can check the status on the IRS site. https://www.irs.gov/refunds

State returns have to be mailed to the state.

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433-how-do-i-track-my-state-refund

Or......

Did you e-file?  Did you click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”

When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say that your return was submitted.  The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected.  If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

If the IRS accepted it, what does it say here?

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

Or does your account say “Ready to Mail?”

Note: If it says “Ready to Mail” or “Printed” that means YOU have to mail it yourself.  TurboTax does not mail your tax return for you.

If your e-file was accepted:

To check on regular tax refund status via automated phone, call 800-829-1954. (This line has no information on Economic Impact Payments.)

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  Many refunds are taking longer during the pandemic.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 20 of your Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

To track your state refund:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433-how-do-i-track-my-state-refund

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1901548-why-do-some-refunds-take-longer-than-others

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

When you are ready to file the 2020 return next year you just file it even if the 2019 return has not been processed.   It could slow up the processing of the 2020 return but it will not stop you from filing it.

Why does I say I cannot file because my identification doesn't match what the cra has on file? Cause I put it in exactly the same on all 4 years and only this one said this.

You have to sign onto the same online account using the exact same user ID you used to create the  online account.

Close all TurboTax windows on your web browser (including this one).  Copy and paste the account recovery website link onto a new web browser window and run the tool.

Use this TurboTax account recovery website to get a list of all the user ID's for an email address.  Run the tool against any email addresses you may have used - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery

If none of the user ID's received will access your  account, then use the option shown in blue on the account recovery website, "Try something else"

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created.  TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

To access your prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

Can you use your child support income to file taxes?? The reason I ask is in 2019-2020 I had to stop working due to surgeries and recovery. I received the 1st check into my account but now it's saying they don't have enough info or I'm not able to receive it I will have to file it on my taxes. So I have no taxes to file to receive the 2nd check. So I didn't know if I could claim child support. Thanks

Child support payments are not entered on a tax return.

You can file a tax return with no income and answer the stimulus questions so that you can receive any funds for which you are eligible to receive as a tax credit/tax refund on the 2020 federal tax return.

To e-file the tax return with no taxable income entered add $1 of interest income.

Enter interest income in the Search box locate in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to interest income

This year, if a non filer or someone without income files just  to get the missing stimulus payment then the $1 bank interest trick will not be needed to force efiling because the refund of the credit will trigger it automatically.

Hello this is Kim and Carrie Richno we are having a hard time logging on to TurboTax To do our taxes our phone number is [phone number removed] our email is  to do our taxes our phone number is [phone number removed] our email is [email address removed]  turboTax sent us a email saying that our return would be $3267 we have used it before , and it worked great there's something going wrong I need your help thank you !

Level 15

$3267 is just the amount on the ad on the screen.  It's not your specific refund.  I see it advertised on the side of this forum too.

And this is a public user forum and it is not safe to post any personal info here or you will get scammed or have your identity stolen.

It's common to end up with multiple accounts. First LOG OUT of whatever TurboTax account you're logged into right now. Then use this TurboTax account recovery website to get a list of user ID's for an email address. Run the tool against any email addresses you may have used

See that's just a generic amount, not your refund.
