turbotax Premier 2021 running very slow

I'm entering our wages have a few W-2's, it is taking about 5 seconds to enter each value.  I'm running on the same computer I've used for the past few years, never had this issues before.  Running Windows 10 (Version 10.0.19043 Build 19043).

Anyone having a similar issue?

It is soooo slow... might move to my wife's computer running Windows 11, give that a try.

I'm having the exact same problem. Tried clearing C&C, rebooting, and restarting program and uploading all updates daily. I don't really want to uninstall and reinstall if I don't have to, but delay in being able to add items is frustrating. It will take forever to finish my tax return at this rate!

Assuming you are using a downloaded version, follow the instructions in this link here to update your software. Use this link here to contact Customer Support if you need further assistance.

As I said in my original post, I already have downloaded all software updates daily. The program continues to run slowly.

I have installed via the CD/DVD... All updates are applied>

You may have too many other programs running in the background.  Close all unnecessary programs and files.

A potential cause may be that your video card driver is not updated. You can update your video card driver by visiting your video card manufacturer’s website. For some integrated system video cards, you can update through a windows update.

If that is not the cause, please reach out to TurboTax Customer Support as your issue would be best resolved with one-on-one support.

What is the TurboTax phone number?

It is the only app running.  Been using TurboTax Premier for 15 years, this has never occurred before.

An answer provided by Blah here may be helpful. It seems he was experiencing the same issue and found the way to correct it.

If that does not help, it would be best to contact a support specialist by phone by following the instructions here. As it is often easier to real time troubleshoot this issue.

That response only relates to adding 1099B entries. My program is running slow with EVERY entry including just inputting my W2. No import, just manually entering numbers.

Just trying to understand if others are having the same issue and if a resoultion was foud.

I have installed on my wife's computer and the issue is vastly improved... still a slow program.  Her computer is Lenovo desktop computer running Windows 11 and has a bit faster processor than Lenovo Carbon.

For comparison on my computer, I still have TurboTax PRemier 2020 so I opened it and entered a dummy return... the issue is not present in last year's version.  Runs much faster than 2021!

The same is happening to me...software & computer completely up-to-date.  Everytime I enter an amount on a W-2, the software stalls for about 7 seconds (presumably to recalculate the tax return) before I can enter another amount.  It's never been this slow in the last 20 years.  This is not an individual computer issue...this is an TurboTax software issue.  It really shouldn't be hard for them to duplicate and create a fix.

I installed it on my wife's computer; faster, newer, and with Windows 11... I thought it was operating better, but it is not.

I have one test I am going to do.  I am storing the file on my Google Drive, as I have always done in the past, but Google did make a huge change this year.  I wonder if the Temp file is uploading to Google drive after every change and causing the delay... I will move it to local drive and test.

My .tax2021 file is stored locally in the default Documents>TurboTax folder...so there should be no delay accessing/writing to it.  I built my PC with a SSD, tons of RAM, and a powerful processor...basically overkill for any application like TurboTax.  Something in their code during the recalculation is a bottleneck...they just need to figure out what it is and fix it. (There are a couple of more "errors" I've run into, but will report them separately.)

So not Google drive!  Thanks!

I am having the same issue. Also running Premiere from a CD (but I downloaded the latest updates already). On the call with customer service, they tell me each field can take up to 3 minutes to reprocess. That is just ridiculous. It took me a long time just to fill in the W2. Please share if anyone has found a solution.

Wow...if they told you "each field can take up to 3 minutes to reprocess", then I guess they're aware of the bad coding and there is nothing end-users can do other than to use their fastest computer.

Since they know of the problem, they really should stop the "reprocessing" after each field is entered, or at least make it an option to recalculate the tax return after all W-2 info has been entered.

Using Deluxe and having same issue. Every field hangs on recalc. Ran 2020 on same laptop with no issues. This demands a fix.

This is absolutely a problem.  My CPU usage is low, everything is on local drives (solid-state at that).  My internet connection is blazing fast.  This program is a dog.  Intuit, stop making excuses, stop wondering if our systems are problematic.  Set this up in your lab, do performance testing, identify the bottlenecks and fix them.  Taxes are painful enough without having to spend 3x-5x longer because of your program.  Isn't the whole point of your product to make taxes less painful?

I'll probably have my taxes done by the time they get a fix, if they even care to...

Same problem.  It's hair pulling frustrating.  I am used to flying through these returns for my family.  I want to scream.

I'm having the same issue. Tech support could not help and offered a refund...Never had an issue like this in 20+ years...Data entry is taking forever!!

Perhaps Intuit should have to legally change the name from "TurboTax" to something like "SloMoTax"...🤨
