TurboTax 2021 Premier Desktop version - where's Crypto support?

I usually buy TurboTax Deluxe (CD/Desktop) but I bought the Premier version this year, because I started trading crypto in 2021. I thought TurboTax Deluxe supports crypto investments and importing transactions from Coinbase, etc., but I don't see that anywhere. Even after I answer Yes to the question whether I had been trading in virtual currency, TT doesn't ask me for any info on my trades.

Does TurboTax Premier 2021 (Desktop/CD) not support crypto investments? If not, how can I downgrade to Deluxe and get a refund on the difference in price? Thank you.

No, only the TurboTax Online Premier and Self-employed versions allow you to import cryptocurrency.

One option is to start a free tax return in TurboTax Premier Online. You don't pay for the return until you file it, so you won't have to pay the Online fee.  Enter (import) your cryptocurrency information in the Crypto section, and then save the .tax file (not PDF).  You can then open the tax file in TurboTax desktop, add the rest of your tax data and file.

The other option would be to file using the Online software and get a refund for the desktop program using this link: How do I request a refund for my TurboTax product?.

Please make an effort to clarify your online documentation to make it more clear that the cryptocurrency support is ONLY in online and NOT in desktop.  It would have saved me some hassle.

I absolutely agree with that comment.  Bait and switch?  I think so.

Very, very disappointed in Intuit to not have their act together on this.  It should be in the H&B software and you could have added it as an update by now.

Very disappointed. My time has been wasted.

Is there a way to do this without starting all over again?

I spent hours entering data into the online version, only to be forced into the desktop version because of buggy code.  Then I spend hours entering data into the desktop version only to be told I have to start all over again?

@pixlor

In Online account, DOWNLOAD your work as a tax file onto your computer.

then you can resume with that on the Desktop version.

To switch from Online to Desktop

To continue in the desktop version see this…….

Download the .tax2021 file for free

How do I save my TurboTax Online return as a tax data file?

After you get the program installed the first thing to do before you open your tax return .tax file is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to FILE - NEW).
