There is no reason why not. The 2020 software runs fine on it. As long as the Mac is on OSX 10.15 or higher it should work.
I thought the software needs to be rewritten to run natively in the new M1 chip. Is not this case anymore?
I am almost positive that there will NOT be a "native" M1 version. Apple supplies Rosetta to allow Intel apps to run and that worked fine for 2020. I don't foresee TurboTax ever offering two different Mac versions of the software.
Will any M1-Macbook user kindly confirm that TurboTax 2020 or 2021 _RAN_ just fine on their M1?
Thanks in advance!
P.S: Perhaps some TurboTax employee with an M1-MacBook can do the same, and kindly share the outcome?
Confirmed that TBTax 2021 works with
Apple M1 Max

I am running MacOS 12.1 on apple M1 2020 macbook air. Turbo Tax 2021 home and business installed yesterday with an error message which I ignored. I imported a TurboTax 2020 file and saved my TurboTax 2021 afterwards. Today, I opened the 2021 file and was prompted to report yesterday's stack trace error to TurboTax. I clicked OK and TurboTax crashed. It crashed upon relaunch. I deleted, rebooted and reinstalled from on-line and CD on multiple occasions since and it still crashes shortly after 'Please wait while we check for updates' message appears. After 3 hours with TurboTax tier 2 tech support, it was suggested I contact Apple since Intel 64-chip chips may be required. If this is the official position, do not plan on using Turbo Tax Home & Business if you own an M1 MacBook.
First try deleting:
~Library/Caches/KSCrash/TurboTax
If that does not fix it then ;
Corruption could have occurred in the Application or in an associated preference or support file.
The best remedy is to totally uninstall TurboTax and all associate files and then re-install. That will not delete or change any .tax2020 data file that had already been created with the tax data.
To uninstall the application and all associated files need to be deleted and then the application reinstalled. If there was a state then the state must also be reinstalled.
To remove TurboTax from your computer, you'll need administrative rights.

Removing the crash folder solved the problem a lot quicker than several hours on the phone with support. Thanks
Runs fine on a 2020 Mac Mini (M1) running OS X 12.0.1 (except for the TT bugs)
I am also running TurboTax 21 (Premiere) on an M1 MacBook Pro. Had the exact same unfortunate experience. Installed it, updated it, downloaded state, brought forward last year's return, finished ... and then it crashed and won't restart. I rebooted. I trashed the app and as much of the supporting files as I could find (tho there may be some others mentioned here I have yet to delete). I restarted, emptied trash and reinstalled. No go.
I called Turbo tech support. Very nice people. 45 minutes later, they were stumped. (By they I mean the tier 1 person who first answered my call and then the tier 2 person they escalated it to.). FYI, neither of them knew that Apple now has an M1 non-Intel computer! One did read off the system requirements, which they said required an Intel processor!!!! Also, the tier 2 expert said, "to delete just drag the app to the trash". When I suggested there might be supporting files in the system, they said "no. There's just the app". Very telling since I found at least a dozen files that had been installed the same day, most with the text 'turbotax' in the name.
Disappointed and hoping Intuit fixes this!

First if it is present delete this file.
~Library/Caches/KSCrash/TurboTax

Thank you.
Regarding, delete this folder:
~Library/Caches/KSCrash/TurboTax
About an hour ago, I came across that solution and it worked. I hope Intuit can get the word out to their tech support staff about this. I spent 45 mins on the phone yesterday with two very nice folks but who did not know of the problem or the solution. They did not know there were M1 Macs AND they thought that deleting the app removed all traces of TurboTax (they knew nothing about the dozens of other files that could be the problem).

The phone support is mainly to answer tax questions and how to use the interview - most have little or no Mac knowledge. It is not easy to get your call escalated to a knowledgeable Mac tech support person.
I am running TurboTax 2021 Deluxe on an M1 Mac mini. Apple tech support suggested installing Rosetta and reinstalling Turbotax software, worked perfectly. I was able to complete my taxes and e-file.
Asside from TT not supporting a required Foreign Tax Credit form, and having an error in copying 2020 California Estimated Taxes into the 2021 app, I had no problem filing (by mail) by 2021 taxes from the output of TT Delux on my 2020 Mac mini (M1) running OS X 12.1
Rosetta is required as it is not Apple Silicon-native.
It runs fine on my Mac mini M1 and Mac Studio M1 Max.
I imagine they will make a Universal version for 2022 that runs on both Intel Macs as well as runs natively on Apple Silicon. I'm not sure how much longer Apple will continue having Rosetta in macOS. I imagine they will stop supporting Intel-based apps in 2-3 years.
Hopefully Intuit makes the 2022 version Apple Silicon-native/Universal. It will run better (less CPU resources and less battery usage for those on laptops). For now, the current Intel-based version is acceptable with Rosetta.
what you two above say matches my experience just today 1/30/23 with a brand new Mac Airbook with M2 chip running OS Ventura (13.2) - the tech support tier 1 person didnt' know anything about it. I finally figured out by reading Intuit's system requirements more closely they support Big Sur and after but they aren't saying anything about silicon chips - Turbotax is still requiring the Rosetta app which slows down performance in order to run TurboTax desktop Home and Business - those of you who are saying it works fine without mentioning the immediate prompt to download and install Rosetta are missing that fact. Sounds like we can get by...
... FYI I've downloaded again, didn't find the crash file fortunately, and had a pretty quick easy download of Rosetta and am running the Turbotax Mac Home and Business 2022 product. So far doing ok, though I'd much rather it ran as native software with the silicon chip. Obviously this will be ideal. Intuit however has had a hard time prioritizing macs - by 2022 I don't understand why.
We are happy to hear you were able to get everything downloaded and working. Please let us know if you need further assistance. @sengler
not compatible with downloadable versions of turbotax. weird that the developers don't know about the required rosetta download. not a thing mentioned in the download instructions. their tech support couldn't get it work either.
just in case you don't install Rosetta with the initial TT download, use this 'sudo /usr/sbin/softwareupdate --install-rosetta' in your Terminal screen to get Rosetta to download. then TT will open
