I have been filing with Turbo Tax for 20 years. I paid for premium last year supposedly to have help when I need it. When I went to start my 2024 taxes, I saw that that 2023 taxes were not filed. I have the email from April stating that Turbo Tax filed them. I had a person helping me who said it would be resolved 3 weeks ago. I had one missed call from TT, with now call number of course. I still cannot get a supervisor or anyone to explain why TT did not file my taxes.
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
Did you received two emails from TurboTax, one for the transmission of the tax return and the other when the IRS either Accepted or Rejected the tax return?
It it turns out that your 2023 return was not e-filed successfully, then you will need to file it by mail now, because e-filing is closed permanently for 2023 returns. Print, sign and date the return in ink, and mail it in.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
Update: I had a lovely person from TurboTax help walk me through getting my return downloaded. I printed and sent to the IRS. I am still not happy that I have the confirmation email from April that said my return was filed and it was not. I do appreciate the great help today. If the original person I asked a few weeks ago was a good I would have had it resolved earlier.
@Ellentg Glad you got it printed and mailed. Back when you e-filed ----did you receive TWO emails from TurboTax----one that said the return was submitted and the next one that told you if the return was accepted or rejected?
Going forward:
When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first one will say that your return was submitted. The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected. If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.
And if you did not file a timely 2023 return you will have trouble e-filing 2024. When it asks for your 2023 AGI try using zero. If zero does not work then you have to print, sign and mail 2024.
I am dealing with the same exact issue right now! Had the April “you’ve filed “ email but turns out it wasn’t filed.
@Cll1 So you got just the first email----not the second one that told you if the return was rejected or accepted? What does it say in your account? Your account will also show if the return was accepted or rejected. If it was rejected, you need to file it by mail now. E-filing is closed for 2023. Print it, sign and date in ink, and mail it in.

I also filed in April of 2024 and Turbo Tax did not submit my 2023 return. I have the receipt showing I paid for the service & the receipt says it was e-filed. The IRS did not recieved my return last year so I'm not sure why I paid turbo-tax for a service they did not follow through on. I saw the response that we are supposed to recieve 2 emails but it's not common knowledge & obviously I only recieved one. I owed $5.00 last year and I am going to be very upset if I'm penalized. I wish I knew the lack of service from last year before filing with turbo-tax this year. PS handling this stuff is a major hassle because I work night shift & am asleep during "normal business hours". Zero stars Turbo Tax.
I just discovered the same thing. I filed last April and they never filed my return. Why are we paying for this service if it doesn't actually work? I have to manually do my taxes again for last year to get the information needed to file for this year. Thanks turbotax...
Exact same problem here. I found out today when I was trying to fill the forms for FAFSA for my daughter. Turbotax rep is asking me to do the same - file via mail. in the meantime I am get a call from "Tax help Coalition" to help me with filing past due tax returns. Is turbotax sharing my data?
@aras69 TurboTax does not share user tax data with any outside source.
You can talk to customer support. But the fact that you did not pay attention to whether your return was rejected or not e-filed successfully is unlikely to get you a refund from TT. When you use "do-it-yourself" tax software the burden is on you to follow up and make sure your return was filed and accepted.
No one in the user forum can resolve a billing issue. If you have a question about your TurboTax fees or billing, make sure you use the word “billing” in your request for help. Do not use the word “refund.”

I had the exact same thing happen. I have copies of the emails showing it was complete!
I was given a refund or ability to transfer the funds to be able to refill using turbo tax I just had to print and mail at the end
I just went to eFile my taxes on TurboTax and it says that I did not complete my 2023 filing with them last year. I have the email showing I paid for their services. I also owed 2k last year and I paid that too. I haven't been able to get ahold of customer service tonight (maybe because it's Sunday?) but has anyone else had this happen to them?
You would have gotten a letter from the IRS if you paid but didn’t file. Maybe you’re in the wrong account. How to view all your accounts

It's common to end up with multiple accounts. First LOG OUT of whatever TurboTax account you're logged into right now. Then use this TurboTax account recovery website to get a list of user ID's for an email address. Run the tool against any email addresses you may have used

Log in to your IRS account and see if they got your 2023 tax return.
I'm having this same issue and am getting no help. I have seen on Reddit and on this community that this has happened to a lot of people. Were they able to help you print off all of the information you had already put in for 2023? I have the receipt showing that I filed with TurboTax for my 2023 filing.
Yes my info was saved but I wasn’t able to proceed and print it out until they sent me the link to the TurboTax 2023 program. They did this instead of a refund for me
June 23, 2025
I just found out, Turbo Tax didn't file my 2024 taxes. And I paid them $138 for them to do so.
So now, I've got to file both federal and state.
I'll never, NEVER use or recommend Turbo Tax ever again!
@mytwosonst-d Paying your TurboTax fees does not file your tax returns. You have to go all the way through the three steps of the FILE section to click a big orange button that says "Transmit my returns now" in order to e-file. Only you can click that button----TT does not do that for you. You can still e-file your returns until October 15, and there is no penalty for filing after the April deadline if you are getting a refund or do not owe.
DID YOU E-FILE?
Did you e-file? Did you go through all three steps of the FILE section and click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”
When you e-file your return you will get two emails from TurboTax. The first one will say your return has been transmitted; the second one will tell you the IRS has accepted or rejected your federal e-file. If you filed a state return, there will be a third email (usually a day or two later) that tells you if the state e-file was accepted or rejected.
@mytwosonst-d And.....When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc. What does it say?
Are you asking about your 2024 return for this year or your 2023 return you did in 2024? You can still efile 2024 until Oct 15.
