Trying to efile and wants to charge me $40 even though I do not have a federal refund. How do I get around that?

I wonder what the 40 is for?  That's not a regular price.

If you are not getting a federal refund it is impossible for you to have a $40 refund processing fee.   That fee is for paying your TurboTax fees from your federal refund.  If you are not getting a refund----that is not even a possibility.  You have to pay your TT fees before you file, using a credit or debit card.

If your TurboTax fees are higher than expected, you can reduce them by removing add-ons     (BEFORE you e-file) :

 

• Remove Premium Services
• Remove MAX Defend & Restore
• Remove a state
• Remove PLUS Help & Support
• Remove Pay With Your Refund
