My CA state return was denied. This is what the email said. Turbo Tax showed no errors. I don't understand what this all says. How do I correct my return so I can re-file, and not have it denied again??

I go back State Tax and check. No error in turbox tax. How to fix this?
SCHCA/NR-043 - Schedule CA (540 Part I or 540NR Part II) Section B Line 9a column (A) (TotalOtherIncome) must equal Section B Line 8a (FederalNOL) + Line 8b (GamblingIncome) + Line 8c (DebtCancellation) + Line 8d (Form2555ForeignIncomeExclusion) + Line 8e (TaxableHealthSavingsDist) + Line 8f (AlaskaPermFundDividends) + Line 8g (JuryDutyPay) + Line 8h (PrizesAndAwards) + Line 8i (ActivityNotEngagedForProfit) + Line 8j (StockOptions) + Line 8k (EngagedProfitRentalIncome) + Line 8l (OlympParalympMedalsUSOCMoney) + Line 8m (Section951Inclusion) + Line 8n (Section951AInclusion) + Line 8o (Section461lExcessBusLossAdj) + Line 8p (ABLEAccountTaxableDist) + Line 8z (Total).
@HeatherPLO Yes, it was denied (rejected) by the state after Turbo Tax said that there weren't any errors. I have no idea what line in incorrect. Doesn't Turbo Tax do all the calculations and let you know if something doesn't add up correctly? I don't want to change anything without knowing if I am changing the correct line. I only get one more try to sent it electronically. Can someone, in plain english, tell me what the error message even says?

Same here, consistently getting CA state returns rejected with above error mentioned
It says:
two lines that should sum to the same amount don't.
they have different amounts.
It tells you which lines to look at.
Same here. The error is like the following:
SCHCA/NR-043 - Schedule CA (540 Part I or 540NR Part II) Section B Line 9a column (A) (TotalOtherIncome) must equal Section B Line 8a (FederalNOL) + Line 8b (GamblingIncome) + Line 8c (DebtCancellation) + Line 8d (Form2555ForeignIncomeExclusion) + Line 8e (TaxableHealthSavingsDist) + Line 8f (AlaskaPermFundDividends) + Line 8g (JuryDutyPay) + Line 8h (PrizesAndAwards) + Line 8i (ActivityNotEngagedForProfit) + Line 8j (StockOptions) + Line 8k (EngagedProfitRentalIncome) + Line 8l (OlympParalympMedalsUSOCMoney) + Line 8m (Section951Inclusion) + Line 8n (Section951AInclusion) + Line 8o (Section461lExcessBusLossAdj) + Line 8p (ABLEAccountTaxableDist) + Line 8z (Total). |
I had the exact same issue. I've located the exact form and line and am 100% positive that they are equal.
Same here. Got the same error message. All TurboTax checks are passed. I printed out the table, and 8a-8z do add up to 9a on the table.
Same here. I filed my CA tax amendment and got this error. What's going on? Turbotax please help immediately. This is obviously a software bug.
@HeatherPLO @MichelleLO Please assist. This has to be a software issue. I was told by the app that "This issue will be resolved in an upcoming product release scheduled for March 24, 2022". I did get an update this morning, and was able to install the update, and re-filed my state tax return, but got rejected again. You can see in the thread that I'm not the only one bothered by this issue.
I got the exact same error and rejected twice. And I am 100% sure the numbers are equal. Now the software says it will be fixed with the next release on 03/25/2022. Let's see.
I update the turbo tax release 3/25 today and got the state rejected with the same error. What's going on with the turbo tax?
Got the same error and tried calling to get assistance. The representative couldn't figure out to share their screen and then just hung up on me.
I had the same rejection. I checked my 2020 return and it had not been cleared by the IRS. The AGI was not a match. Hope this helps.
Are you saying the error message is incorrect. What actually happened is that the AGI didn't match?
It's 3/25 now and I checked but there was no update available. Wondering when this promised "product release" will take place. I've always heard people say how good Turbotax has been in the past years, and this is my first attempt at it, but it couldn't even catch the error in my return. How much should I believe in their "maximum refund guaranteed" slogan?
@Katina S do you guys even read our comments? It's been mentioned multiple times in this thread. The error code is SCHCA/NR-043.

same issue here. I was rejected last week, and turbotax shows the update on 3/24 will fix it. But I was rejected again, and turbotax shows the 3/25 update will fix it. Is there an update today???
