In the past with TurboTax, when software says "or later" it refers to that operation system VERSION. Big Sur is not an Intel based operating system, so it is completely different than OS Mojave.

Please respond that Min REQ does support OS Big Sur.

You can try installing it.  If it doesn't work you can get a refund.

TurboTax used the Apple supplied developer tools so if Apple tools supports it then it should work.    Big Sur will run in Intel based Macs.

Big Sur runs on the following Macs:
  • MacBook: Early 2015 or newer.
  • MacBook Air: Mid 2013 or newer.
  • MacBook Pro: Late 2013 or newer.
  • Mac Mini: Late 2014 or newer.
  • iMac: Mid 2014 or newer.
  • iMac Pro.
  • Mac Pro: Late 2013 or newer.

Are the listed minimum system requirements for the disc version or the download version, or both?  My MacBook uses MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6.

For both.  The Download is the same as the CD.

CD and download are the same thing and have the same requirements... If you cannot upgrade your system and do not want to buy a new computer then you can still use the ONLINE version instead.

I have a iMac with Sierra 10.13.6 and Apple tells me I can't upgrade to

Mojave or later.  This would mean that I have to buy a new computer.

Not really what I want to do; I am a senior and semi retired.  Any suggestions?

I have been using the disc version; do you think the download requirement is different? I wouldn't think so.

You can use the TurboTax online editions for tax year 2020 - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/

If you used the TurboTax desktop editions for tax year 2019 you can transfer the 2019 tax data to the 2020 online tax return.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for transferring prior year tax data from your computer to the current year online editions - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/entering-importing/help/how-do-i-transfer-last-year-s-return-into-turbotax-online/01/25953

thank you. I am very happy but cautious that the online version will work and not the

cd version.  I'm crossing my fingers!

If by online version you mean the account you go online and log into using a browser and fill out online you can use it.  If you mean go online to download the Desktop program instead of installing the CD then no, it won't work.

FYI - Switching to the Online version

If you can't  install Turbo Tax Desktop program you can transfer from your 2019 return from your computer into the online version. You need to have the file ending in.tax2019 on your computer.

If you used the Desktop program last year here’s How to transfer into the Online version, expand the blue link if you used the CD/download last year

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/entering-importing/help/how-do-i-transfer-last-year-s-return-into-turbotax-online/00/25953

If you used the Desktop program before you may notice several differences and not like the online version.  It has less features and no Forms Mode.  You can only do 1 return.  Your return is only saved online so be sure to save both the .tax2020 data file and the pdf file to your computer when you are done.  In case you need to amend in the future or if you need a copy to get a loan or something.  You might not be able to access your online return when you need a copy.

Frankie 1, you are correct.  TurboTax 2020 Mac software requires macOS Mojave 10.14 or later to operate.  Please see the following Help Article for more information: Minimum system requirements for TurboTax Mac software

I tried using Disc download of TurboTax Premier 2020 and got this message "You can't use this version of the application ***with this version of macOS

You have macOS 10.13 6. This application requires macOS 10.14 or later."

My computer has had all the latest updates downloaded. So I tried to download Turbo Tax online and it says I already have it downloaded - which is the version Turbo says cannot run on this application - how can you assist me? or is this just a waste of time and should not buy your product again?

2020 TurboTax requires OSX 10.14 or higher - it will not run in 10.13.

It's too bad your advertising does not alert us that older IMAC's (2011) cannot run your software on OS 10.13. I have used turbo for all this time, now I purchased and installed Deluxe which will not work. Now I need to find a computer to run it.  Not a happy camper.
