My computer has 2GB RAM but TurboTax 2020 still complains it does not meet minimum memory requirements. Is there a way to install?

Since you are using the desktop version of Turbo Tax, be sure to click on "Check for Updates" and update your software if needed. If that doesn't work you can manually update your software.

Hard to update the software when you can't even start the program. The minute you click the turbotax icon, it automatically tries to do an update and hangs. Close out of everything, reboot, try the manual installation and it says not enough RAM. 12 GB is more than enough to run every other program I own. This issue is causing more problems than Intuit is willing to acknowledge, meanwhile after 10 years of buying their software, we get the option of spending 4 hours with tech support and get no resolution. This has been posted in numerous forums and blogs. MANUAL install does not bring back the rainbows and sunshine. Where is TT getting it's information about the RAM available in our systems? maybe we can start there?

Can you try the steps posted below and let us know if this helps:

  • change your resolution to 800 x 600 (start>setting >system resolution).Once it's been changed, your screen size will look very big. REMEMBER your initial resolution setting!
  • launch TurboTax and the activation screen should launch. Copy / paste in your activation code. You should get the 'all set' green check mark
  • change your resolution back to what is was originally.

My system also meets the minimum requirements but the software will not install, saying I do not have enough memory.

Is there a way around the memory check?

You're saying that TT can't determine if you have enough RAM because of video settings?  Who coded that piece of crap?  Those two are totally independent, and mean nothing to each other.

that is a frequent solution for turbo tax not putting the activation window up at all.   I doubt very much that it will work when turbo tax says the computer does not have enough memory
