I am wondering if my maternity leave and family leave can be used as income in order to file and claim my children?!?!

It has to be earned income, like wages to be able to quantify for tax credits. You may still have to file.

Refundable child-related credits like earned income credit and/or additional child tax credit are based on your income from working.   You do not say how much income you received.   You may need to fill a tax return and you can enter dependents, but entering dependents does not mean you will get those refundable credits.

    Who has to file?
