If I paper filed 2021 taxes 02-11-2022 and no refund yet, do I refile?

No tax filed received is the only information I can see online. I’ve tried calling so many times, can’t get through.

NO ... if you mailed the return to the correct address then do NOT mail in another return.  Paper returns are taking 6 months to a year to process due to the perpetual understaffing at the IRS.

I'm not an expert on this, but I'll share some thoughts.

I assume you are referring to your Federal tax return.

1a) If you have confirmed that your return was received, it will be processed - NO.  Do not refile.  This could cause confusion and further delay processing.

1b)  If not, you can check your return's status

2) It takes the IRS longer to process paper filings than e-filings.

3) The IRS is backlogged.  Be patient.  Your return will be processed eventually.  Calling them to check your status will not speed the process.  Relax, and wait your turn.  The IRS processes hundreds of millions of returns.

Wow. Thank you @bosso3 for this information. The automated messaging from the IRS says that all taxes filed before April 15 have been processed. But when I looked up my transcripts it shows not received for 2021 filings.

@blanchardmv = here is what the IRS website states -

"The IRS is opening mail within normal timeframes and all paper and electronic individual refund returns received prior to April 2021 have been processed if the return had no errors or did not require further review.

As of April 29, 2022, we had 9.6 million unprocessed individual returns which include returns received before 2022, and new tax year 2021 returns. Of these, 2.9 million returns require error correction or other special handling, and 6.7 million are paper returns waiting to be reviewed and processed."

it doesn't state that returns filed prior to April 2022 have been processed.  Note that most of the backlog (6.7MM of 9.6MM are paper).  The IRS told Congress that it commits to getting back to normal backlogs by the end of the year.

Thank you @NCperson for this information. I had to paper file because it claimed that the primary taxpayers birthdate did not match the IRS records. I made an ID.me account to show proof of the birthdate and included that PIN number. I’m guessing that’ll make it a longer process. Thanks again.

Thank you @Critter-3  I tried googling IRS filing status time frames but I didn’t find any updated information. Thanks again.
