I am getting a reactivation request again. How can I get back into my software?

I can't get into my account.  What do I need to do?

I'm not sure what you mean by "can't get into my account."    You mentioned "software", so if you're using desktop software (as opposed to Online TurboTax), it doesn't need you to access your account.

So you may need to clarify first what product you are using.

Are you using desktop software (CD/download), and it's asking for your license activation code again?

If so, first close TurboTax.

If you are using Windows, right-click the TurboTax desktop icon and in the popup choose "Properties."

In the properties box choose Compatibility tab.

Place checkmark for "Run this program as an administrator."

Click Apply then OK to save.

Then try launching TurboTax.  Does it still ask for an activation code?

I installed the software a while back and activated.  I went to use it and it is asking me to reactivate it.

TurboTax is one of the rare company that new versions does not open old version file , i.e TurboTax 2021 does not open your TurboTax 2020 tax return.

Nothing wrong with that, as long as you are still able to use your 2020 version software open your 2020 return.

But this has been changed this year.  When you use your 2021 version to do new return, you need to open your 2020, 2019, 2018,2017 and 2016 return to look for a number on some line in some form --- You need to open your previous 5 years return.

You start your 2020,2019,2018 version of TurboTax, it force you to "update" --- what does the "update" do?  After that, you will be force to enter your Activation Code for your "2020, 2019, 2018" code?  Where is that code?  it is on the CD package!, Not the CD itself!!

I have activate the 2020,2019,2018 before, I used it to file my return, why I was forced to "re-activate?"

For Microsoft, even if you wiped your hard drive and rebuild the machine, you call Microsoft, because you activated it before, they are able to find your code and reactivate for you.

But this is NOT for TurboTax --- You have to saved all the previous 5 years CD package, not only the CD itself.

Without that. You are locked out !!!

Here -- I am demanding TurboTax to refund my purchase for Year 2020, 2019 software, I paid for it as record shows, but your system now prevent me from using it -- Your company is responsible to let the activated software continue to work

I am demanding TurboTax to refund $220 for my year 2019 and 2020 software purchase which is not usable due to your own change -- Your company violate the contract between the customer and the company, the software shall continue to work !!!

@xpgong  You usually only need the prior year AGI to efile.  After you file each year you should save both the .tax2020 file and the PDF file.  If you have the pdf you don't need to open it in the program.   Don't you have a pdf?

You can request a transcript from the IRS

https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

And if you transferred from the prior year .tax2020 file everything should transfer over for you.

If it's asking you to Activate again,

Make sure your computer is the same way when you originally installed it.  Like with no flash drives plugged in or plugged in if one was.  It asked me again so I just closed the program and took out a flash drive that was plugged in and tried again.  It worked.  Or you may need to connect a flash drive or printer or something that was connected when you originally installed the program.

The License Code just started with 2019.  It was a 14 digit code then.

And what other tax company can open prior years with the current program?  That would be impossible.
