Open ProSeries and insert the media containing the exported TurboTax data into the appropriate drive. Click "File," then "Transfer," then "Transfer Clients," and select the "20xx TurboTax 1040 to 20xx ProSeries 1040."

Consistently gives error message when transferring .tax file from TurboTax Online export.

Is there any updates that work for online files? I have never had a successful transfer for these yet.

You bought a professional program contact the ProSeries Support and ask them ...  https://proconnect.intuit.com/support/en-us/help-article/intuit-product-orders/contact-proseries-help/L4UBsl4lN_US_en_US

According to TurboTax:

"TurboTax Online files can't be transferred directly into ProSeries. They must be saved to the desktop first with a .tax20YY extension. For example .tax2019 for a 2019 TurboTax Online file."

Are you downloading a *.taxYYYY data file from your Online account, such as *.tax2020, *.tax2021 for a completed return, *.tax2021 for an Online return in progress, etc.?

Once you have the *.taxYYYY data file from Online TurboTax on your computer, see this FAQ I found at the ProSeries website:

Otherwise, as Critter mentioned, we can't help you with ProSeries in this forum.   The link she provided has a direct phone number to ProSeries Support.

I have already contacted their support team. According to their end, the .tax file should work, but doesn't.

Correct, that is the same method tried but the error persists regardless. First the file is exported/downloaded from the Online file and saved to the desktop as a .tax20YY, then using that file, I attempted to transfer to ProSeries according to their instructions as well.

All attempts have ended in failure so far and the same error message. No support team have been able to assist so far.

I doubt we can help you much here unless a user just happens to also use ProSeries (which I don't), but what tax year specifically are you downloading from Online TurboTax and what year ProSeries are you trying to transfer it to?      Are you trying to download a 2021 return in progress to finish in 2021 ProSeries?   If not, what?

ProSeries also has an active community forum of its own, but catering to tax pros.   Have you tried to ask the professional accountant community there?  Go to the page below and click the blue

"Ask the Community"

button to start a new thread in that pro forum on your issue, or use the search feature there to search previous discussions for your issue.

Are you trying to transfer the previous year online return into Pro-Series?  It can't be for the same year.  Like 2020 into a new 2021 return.   What error message do you get?

The specific year in question is 2020, and it's for an amended return.

If you need to amend  you have to amend using the same program that you filed the original return.  You can not import or open a 2020 Turbo Tax file  in the ProSeries 2020 program.  You can only transfer from the PRIOR year.  So a Turbo Tax .tax2020 file into 2021.  Otherwise you will have to recreate the original 2020 return in ProSeries to amend it.

Yes, I have scoured the community there as well, and I'm not the first to encounter this issue. There does not appear to be a reliable resolution. Not only that, but ProSeries have previously stated that it's a TurboTax [online] problem.

The thing about the .tax file is that it works fine with TurboTax desktop, but the online files for some reason are not. Both the TT online & the desktop can export as .tax file but one works and the other doesn't. It doesn't really make sense..

It was for TT 2020 to PS 2020. The error message said:

"An unknown error occured while attempting to transfer (120)".

Thank you everyone for trying to assist with this issue.

I think you are still not getting it.  You can not go from TT 2020 to PS 2020.  You can only transfer a prior year TT file into the current PS.  Like transfer 2019 into 2020 or transfer 2020 into 2021.  Not into the same year.

Another way to look at it ... the 2021 information can be transferred into the 2022 program  but  the same 2021 tax file cannot be transferred into the 2021 program OR opened by the 2021 program.   This is the same for all transfers between  all tax programs that allow such transfers. Although the prior year info can be "transferred" to the next tax year so the basic info is populated   the tax file itself  cannot be opened by a program that did not produce the original tax file.
