I want to file my state return which has been on hold since Feb. 11 of this year.  I tried to go to payment but could not enter my payment info.  when I first tried, it was 20 but they wanted to take it out of my fed. refund.  I did not want that so I tried to find how to pay my charge card.  entered my info except my payment info because I could not get that form to enter my payment.  been waiting to calm down after trying so many times, it is now time to get this filed, how do I make my payment and send my Ohio State return by e file.  tried again today and still cannot do it.  back on Feb 7 when my Fed was transmitted, was told state not availble .  I have a pin #  from back then.  what do I do now.  talk to a live person like I did back then????????

When I bought taxes I was to get $1030 where I didn’t receive my second statement it became $1630 is what it said I will get I only got them $1030 how do I go back and get my $600 That was the second stimulus

@Hooksa61 It is still not clear from the information you posted here whether you used the recovery rebate credit to get the $600 stimulus check when you prepared your 2020 tax return.    If you have not filed it yet, you have to use the RCC in the Federal Review section to get the $600 stimulus.    If you already filed and did not use that section to get the credit then you have to amend your return AFTER it has been fully processed in order to get the credit.

Or did the IRS reduce your refund and remove the credit----lots of people made mistakes with that credit when they prepared their returns and then the IRS recalculated their refund.   So tell us more specifically what happened.

The stimulus check is an advance on a credit you can receive on your 2020 tax return.  If something went wrong or you did not get the stimulus check in 2020, you can get it when you file your 2020 return in early 2021

The Recovery Rebate Credit will be found in the FEDERAL REVIEW section. ( you should see "Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount”)  If you are eligible it will end up on line 30 of your 2020 Form 1040.

Make sure that you enter ALL of the stimulus money received for the 1st and 2nd stimulus for yourself, your spouse and your children.

I filed 2019 with you.  Now I am trying to file 2021.  We had 0 income for 2020.  I can't get past the 2020 question about not filing.  How do I get past that to file 2021

Just indicate that you did not file a 2020 tax return.  Or enter a 0 (zero) for the 2020 AGI.

I would like to go ahead and pay my Ohio taxes.  How can I do that now ? I don't want it to be deducted from my checking account later.

You can directly pay Ohio through the state payment portal on the OH website.  You can follow these steps:

  1. Visit Pay Online
  2. Either set up an account (or use one you may already have) or make your payment as a "Guest" without a specific account
  3. Walk through the steps to pay your tax either way you choose

How long has it been since you filed?   Did you efile, or did you file by printing, signing, and mailing the return?

If you efiled, you should double-check to be sure the return was efiled successfully and accepted.
If you used Online TurboTax, you can sign into your Online Account and check the efile status at the Tax Home.

If that showed it was accepted, you can use the "Where's My Refund" tool at the IRS website below to monitor the status of your Federal refund.
https://www.irs.gov/Refunds

TIPS when using the IRS WMR tool:

  • Be sure you have waited at least 24 hours after acceptance before using the IRS WMR tool.  Or if you filed a paper return in postal mail, wait at least 4 weeks before using it.
  • Be sure you enter the correct SSN and filing status.
  • Be sure you are using only the Federal refund amount.   Do not include any state refund or any total refund or net refund (Fed and State) that TurboTax may have provided on a screen.
  • Also be sure you are using the Federal amount before any TurboTax fees are taken out (if you chose that option.)
  • Look at your actual Federal return to get the Federal refund amount, i.e., your Form 1040, Line 35a.
  • You can also try phoning the IRS refund hotline.  I've seen it work for some users when the WMR tool didn't.  800-829-1954

I did my 2021 return and Turbotax calculated that I owed the IRS $940.00. I filed and paid the $940.00.

Several weeks later I received a letter from the IRS stating that I over-paid and they owe me $3,046.00. Two days later I received a check from the IRS for the $3,046.00.

Why was Turbotax wrong?  Can I trust Turbotax to do my 2022 return correctly?  I have used Turbotax for at least ten years. What's up?

@Howardrubin1 No one in this user forum can see your tax return or access your account.   So no one at TT knows what the IRS changed or why---we can only guess.   Only the IRS can explain why they sent you a refund.   But --- did you pay estimated tax during the year and forget to enter the estimated payments when you prepared your return?   Or did you apply a previous year tax refund to the tax owed for the most recent return?  If those are not the reason---then ask the IRS for an explanation.   The IRS does not tell TurboTax when they change something on your return.

@Howardrubin1

Did the letter not indicate any clue as to why your refund amount increased?

If you need help with that letter or understanding why your refund increased by the IRS, you can talk to TurboTax free Audit Support Center.  They are likely much easier to reach than the IRS right now.   They help with IRS letters and can question you about items on your return to see if there is a clue as to why your return differed.   You may still have to phone the IRS later for specific info if any question persists.

To get the phone number for the TurboTax free Audit Support Center go to the link below, and near the top left where it says "We can help you with your tax letter," click the blue

"Get Help"

button, and follow the prompts.
