Federal Extension rejected with R0000-503-02, no ability to fix or re-file extension

I got an email indicating my request for a federal extension was rejected with code R0000-503-02, meaning I probably just had a typo for my spouse's SSN. But depsite getting an email from turbotax indicating the rejection, when I login my account says federal return pending with no ability to correct the error or resend the extension request

Please follow these instructions to make the corrections:

  1. Sign in to your account and select the Fix my return button.
  2. On the Let's fix your returns and then refile screen, select the Fix it now button.
  3. Review the spouse's info on the Fix Name/Social Security Mismatch screen. If there's an error, select No.
    • If everything is correct, select Yes. You won't be able to e-file your return, so we'll help you print and mail it.
  4. Enter the correct info on the next screen and select Continue.
  5. Select Continue to refile to file your return again.

You can also go directly to the personal information screen to make additional corrections:

  1. With your return open, select My Info in the left menu.
  2. On the Personal info summary screen, select Edit next to the spouse's name.
  3. Make any corrections, and then select Continue.
  4. Select File in the left menu.
  5. At the Welcome back screen, select Continue. (Don't select Fix my return, you've already done that).
  6. Follow the instructions to proceed with the filing process.

The secondary taxpayer's Social Security number and last name don't match IRS records

@AkinaLO , thanks for the response, I had seen those instructions in the help menu, but I can't follow them since there isnt a "Fix my return" button showing on my account, even though I got the email indicating the extension had been rejected

If you do not have a link or option to fix the extension you can print and mail it. Also, you can contact us so we can assist you further on correcting it online.

Please see this for more information: What can I do if I filed an extension before the filing deadline but it was rejected?
