Did not receive a 1099-MISC from Uber and I dont know how to report the $100.00 incentive bonus that would be on the 1099-MISC.

I have tried to get the information such as employer EIN from Uber so that I can report the 100.00 but they are not understanding my concern. They keep telling me because I did not make 600.00 or over I will not receive a 1099-MISC.

You're right. Uber is not required to issue a 1099 if the total earnings are $600 or less. Even if income is less than $600, you will still report self-employment income. No EIN is necessary or required. You may also deduct your expenses.

Use these steps to enter your income not reported on a 1099-MISC (for example, on a tax summary when no 1099 is received, or on a 1099-K):

·         On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)

·         This opens a box where you can type in “self-employment income” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find).

·         The search results will give you an option to “Jump to self-employment income".

·         Click on the blue “Jump to self-employment income” link.

·         At this point, you can start entering the information for your Uber income and expenses.

·         Edit the Business Income section to see options for entering General Income.

·         Under the General Income section, you can enter a Description and Amount for your income.

Here are some more expenses, in addition to your mileage, that may help boost that difference for Uber/Lyft drivers:

  • Snacks and refreshments for passengers
  • Extra USB chargers
  • Power cables
  • Mobile routers for internet connection.

If you open a business bank account or credit card, the fees and interest are deductible.

The cost of TurboxTax Self-Employed along with legal fees related to starting or running your business.

Some others include:

  • Car inspection fees, if required
  • Additional insurance (such as liability insurance)
  • Paypal fees
  • Dash cam (only if it is legal in your area).

I am a driver for uber and made nearlt $12k last year but I've contacted customer service and they will not send me an 1099-misc and have told me to use the yearly summary. I am having a hard time inputting the information for the summary into turbotax.
The first response mentioned using self employment income to bypass this, but I'm unsure what kind of income it is? Turbotax is asking if it's cash, checks or 1099-k

Any thoughts?

You will need to file a schedule C in your personal tax return for self employment income.  You will need to use the Self Employed Online version to fill out schedule C or any of the Desktop programs.

Self Employment tax (Scheduled SE) is generated if a person has $400 or more of net profit from self-employment on Schedule C.  You pay 15.3% for SE tax on 92.35% of your Net Profit greater than $400.  The 15.3% self employed SE Tax is to pay both the employer part and employee part of Social Security and Medicare.  So you get social security credit for it when you retire.  The SE tax is in addition to your regular income tax on the net profit.

You can enter Cash Income into Online Deluxe or Premier but if you have any expenses you will have to upgrade to the Self Employed version.
