Can't open my 2019 tax return on Turbo Tax Premier on Mac because it keeps prompting for updating and on relaunch, it prompts to update again. Broken updater.

I can only update, won't let me launch the program normally and when I update, it prompts for update again and again.

Open TurboTax and select Check for Updates from the Online menu near the top. On a Mac, simply quit and reopen TurboTax. If there are any updates, you'll be prompted to download them.

Tips:

  • It's best to use a wired, high-speed connection when updating, both to save time and minimize data corruption.
  • If your connection drops in the middle of the update, try again; it should pick up where it left off.
  • If you're having trouble updating on your PC, try a manual update.

On launch, it only lets me try to update.  It downloads the update, extracts it and then presumably updates and relaunches.

Then it prompts for update over and over again.

It won't let me do anything else.

I don't know what they could be updating in September but it won't let me skip it either.  So I can't open my 2019 return at all.

OK, the fix is to turn off my VPN and then let it update.

Incredible that VPN should affect it.

As if it's embedded my real IP address in the program and it checks to see if it matches and if it doesn't it keeps trying to update over and over again.

Probably shady invasive DRM at work.
