Can't download my .tax file. It says that I didn't file with TT, but I did.

Hi,

I have filed my taxes with TT since 2011. Given the craziness of 2020, today (11/27/2020) is when I am trying to file my 2019 taxes.

TT made me download the software (according to them I cannot do it online). That's fine. I paid and downloaded my Mac version. I am trying to upload my 2018 .tax file but when I go to TT Online, it does show me everything all the way back to 2011, however, when I click on the "Download .tax file", it reads...

Looks like you didn't file with us last year or you filed using a TurboTax product that doesn't include access to prior-year returns.

Help, please. How can I get my .tax from 2018?

Thanks!

Did you use this procedure -

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF) or Download .tax file

Doing so gets the same message that the original poster mentioned i.e.,:

Looks like you didn't file with us last year or you filed using a TurboTax product that doesn't include access to prior-year returns.

So, the net result is you can't currently import any of your 2018 tax return info into your 2019 return -- even though (as the original poster did) I paid for the downloaded version of TT2019.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for this situation of not being able to download the 2018 tax file - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-topics/help/why-can-t-i-download-my-2018-tax-file-in-turbotax-online/01/1763478

Thank you @DoninGA  for the update.  Unfortunately that link just allows you to get an email notification for when that issue is resolved.   Definitely helpful, but it seems that TT hasn't updated the status of this issue in 2 weeks.

So, I guess I just wait until TT fixes this??

Again, appreciate the link, @DoninGA

I used "Deluxe" to file in 2018 and TT keeps asking me to sign up for "Plus"  in order to access that return.  Are they really charging me to view the tax preparation that I already paid for? Or am I also an affected customer of this other system failure?

@mharrisonbaker You should not have to pay for Plus to print out or access your tax return if you used the deluxe version of TurboTax. You may have to contact TurboTax for help as follows:
