Very little will transfer from a pdf of your last tax return. And.....it is too late to start a 2021 return using online TurboTax. If you need to prepare a 2021 return you will need the desktop software--the CD/download---which must be used on a full PC or Mac.

When you use desktop software, there is an additional fee to e-file a state return. You can avoid that fee if you print, sign and mail the state return. The state e-file fee is $19.99 and increases in March.

I'm actually trying to import 2021 taxes filed through my accountant to see if I can start using TurboTax for 2022. Hoping you can help
The software for 2022 has not become available yet. It will be available in mid to late November, so it is too soon for you to start trying to do anything for 2022's return. And....again...only some of your personal information will transfer from a pdf. You will have to enter the other information in to TurboTax from scratch.

I have a lot of tax forms so I'm wondering if TurboTax will allow me to manually key in each form's data from 2021 rather than answering questions. I tried that last year and the software didn't allow me to get everything in. I really want to use TurboTax instead of my accountant so I have a better ownership/understanding of what's being filed.

Maybe. The 2022 won't come out until Nov or Dec. Then you might be able to transfer from 2021. But transferring from a pdf won't be much. Only some basic info like your name, address, ssn and AGI. One thing you can do is buy the 2021 Desktop program and recreate your 2021 return either using the interview steps or directly on the forms. Might be good practice to see how it works. Then if you match what the accountant filed you can use that to transfer into 2022.

I bought the software for 2021 but struggled to find all the info from the tax filing questionnaire on the forms created by my accountant. I guess I'll try to re-download the 2021 software and see if I can find everything.
It's a little frustrating to not just allow me to enter manually what was filed before so that it makes starting up easier.

We can help you find things. You can switch to Forms mode and enter directly on the forms in the Desktop program. You may have to drill down to enter on a worksheet. Did you uninstall the program?
