California 2022 filing deadline changed to November 16

The IRS has extended the deadline to November 16.

but TurboTax doesn't recognize this. It currently says "It looks like the October 16th deadline to file has passed, but we can still help you file a 2022 tax return using TurboTax desktop software."

When will this be changed so I can file online?

.If you started your 2022 return with Turbo Tax you have until Oct 31 at 9pm PST to file your return online.

The TT efile will close 10/31 period... there will be no further extensions no matter where you live.    If you file after that date you will either need to print, ink sign and mail in the return or find a paid tax pro locally that may be able to efile until the IRS shuts down sometime about Thanksgiving for the change over to the 2023 program.

@Critter-3   Do you think it is for both Online and Desktop efiles?  And for everyone or people in CA?

@VolvoGirl obviously, a taxpayer can still use the desktop version to create a 2022 tax return.

However, when you get to the efile screen it now states that E-File is closed for the season, so 'no can do'.

On the page that says you cannot e-File anymore, click the "Continue" button and you should see the e-File screen.

Thank you very much for putting this in, 'just press continue'.

How sure are you that this will actually work? The screens look good but I'm a bit uncertain.

It is too late to efile from Turbo Tax.  You need to print and mail it now.

I live in California where the tax deadline was extended to Nov 16. I already paid to file in the online version, but I was blocked at the last step because it needed to verify my wife's information so that I could file jointly for the first time.

Is there a chance I can get an exception to file online because I'm not making any changes to the tax return.

Or at least can I get a refund for the online filing payments that I could not get to use?

The online system is closed and being converted to 2023.  There is not a way to change it back to 2022 so you have an exception.   Online filing with TurboTax is free so there is nothing to refund.  At this point your options are to print and mail or to use a professional tax preparer who still have 2022 efiling available.

There are no exceptions.   You can pay a tax professional to e-file it, or mail it.    Get it postmarked by the CA deadline.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Yes, you will receive a text message confirmation for federal and state filing separately. I am in California state by the way. I also got the CA state refund last week.

For the record, I successfully used TurboTax desktop edition to e-File 2022 taxes on October 29, 2023.

Ignore the software text saying you cannot e-File anymore. Click “Continue” and continue e-filing. At the final step, the software will send the tax return. Then you will receive two text messages for federal and state separately saying “Dear full name, your [Federal/State] return was accepted”.

I received the state refund in my bank account shortly.

@imperialpalace   Thankyou for confirming for me that you could still efile from Online until Oct 31.  But now it is after Oct 31 and you can't efile at all from Turbo Tax.   You now have to print and mail or switch to the Desktop program to finish.   I don't think you can efile from the Desktop program either.  See this
