If you purchased the CD/downloaded version of TurboTax Premier, then there is no need to modify the program in order to add a Schedule C.  The forms and capability required for Schedule C exists in every version of the CD/downloaded products.  The only difference is in the extra guidance given with the Home and Business version.  If your Schedule C is reasonably uncomplicated, you should be fine.

The online versions of TurboTax are not all capable of handling every situation, but they can be upgraded as you go whenever necessary.

Use the following steps to get started with the Schedule C:

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, locate the search box in the upper right corner
  • This opens a box where you can type in “schedule c” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass
  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to schedule c
  • Click on the blue “Jump to schedule c” link

I normally do 3-4 tax returns per year for family members.   two or three have itemized deductions.   One has a business and rental real estate.   I have always purchased one Turbo Tax download home and business in the past for all the returns.   This year I purchased 2020 TurboTax online and it appears I can only do one tax return with this product.   If that is not true, I need help figuring out how to do multiple returns with the on-line product.   If that is true, how an I can get a credit for the $90 I paid for Turbo Tax on-line applied to a purchase of Turbo Tax Home and Business CD Download.   I shouldn't have to buy a new Turbo Tax product for every single return I prepare should I?

Thanks

It sounds like you need the Desktop Version. Please see this link, to compare the Online and Desktop Versions.

You can move your Online file to the Desktop program and continue without paying for Online or needing to reenter your information.

Please see the TurboTax FAQ below for instructions:

How do I switch from TurboTax Online to the TurboTax software?

@m30hoope  Where did you buy it?  You can now buy the Online Live version in stores like Costco.  So you have to be careful what you buy.  The Online version is not the same as the Desktop CD/Download program as you found out.

If you already paid for Online you need to Ask Customer Service to switch you to the Desktop program.
