The IRS has many fax numbers for different purposes. What is it that you want to fax to the IRS? If you are responding to an IRS notice or letter, and it says you can respond by fax, the fax number for that particular response is in the notice or letter.

It's for form 1040 I believe ... They said they mailed the letter and it won't get here for weeks ...but I need to fax them now....when I waited on hold for 5hrs the person said he can't give me the fax number unless I'm at the fax company and he would not stay on the line while I drove to it 5 mins away....it's over 100 degrees he expected me to wait in parking lot on hold for 5hrs in front of a copy/fax business...just to speak with a rep....

Trying to get ahead of the IRS letter may be a waste of time and effort but you could try using your phone to fax the information ... look for scanner apps like "tiny scanner" that can fax the PDF files. Or find a local IRS office where you can drop off that information.
