2024 TurboTax Wells Fargo Import issues

Wells Fargo brokerage data is not importing to TurboTax as of 4/4/25 (previously mentioned to be a TurboTax issue awaiting resolution in some February 2025 posts).  Although the connections is made in Microsoft Edge outside of the TurboTax program and my Wells Fargo online account confirms data sharing with TurboTax has been approved, the link process running in Microsoft Edge still reports an error and suggests to just try again in a few hours, but the process still didn't work after 3 hours.

The problem is now solved for me.  Instead of using the TurboTax request for data from Wells Fargo (since I log into Wells Fargo on the web rather than Wells Fargo Advisors), I tried having TurboTax request data from Wells Fargo Advisors (using the same username and password as for my Wells Fargo account).  I was able to import all of my data properly using this method.

If you are using TurboTax Online, try importing using a different browser. Make sure any VPN or Anvi-Virus is turned off.

I am not using TurboTax Online.  I am using TurboTax Home and Business that was just updated again when I ran the program today.  I am not using a VPN.  I have Windows 11 Pro (with all current updates) and use the built in Windows Security program.  I have thousands of stock trades performed by Wells Fargo every year, so typing all of the transactions manually is not really an option.  I get the same error code (590) that others have mentioned.

I have the same issue.  I log into the WF account via Turbo Tax.  It shows all of the accounts, you continue within Turbo Tax and then get an error indicating it can't import the data.  The WF site shows that I'm sharing the data with Turbo Tax, so not sure if the problem is with TT or WF at this point.

I have tried: Wells Fargo, Wells Fargo Advisors and First Clearing.

Each one gives a different error.

I should be using the Advisors one as it's an investment account, not a savings/checking account.

However, the "Wells Fargo" pops up a login window, lists my accounts and looks like it's going to work, then gets an error to try back.  This has occured for multiple days over the course of a week, so assume it's not a resource/web availability thing.

Very frustrated - anyone find a workaround ?

Turbo Tax says they're working on it, but I have little confidence.

I have similar issues TurboTax 2024 Windows 11 desktop, Edge browser.  Yesterday 4/8/2025 and today 4/9/2025 same thing. Enter correct WF login credentials in TT, get "Connecting to Wells Fargo Advisors" with spinning circle, then error message popup: "Wells Fargo Advisors Our System is currently unavailable. Please try again later or contact us at [phone number removed] (Option2). (2000:22:D0x00230001-[removed])". I called Wells Fargo on that number and they say it's a TurboTax problem, not an issue on their side. Previous 10 years has always worked well.

Try a different browser. This has worked for many.

Thanks for the suggestion. Browser is not involved in my workflow. For Wells Fargo Advisors you enter your credentials in TurboTax desktop and no redirect to a browser, error message is in desktop app. I did try simplifying my WF password to less characters, alphanumeric only but same error message.

With the circle spinning after you Sign In to Wells Fargo, this sounds like a connectivity issue.

Here's How to Turn Off Anti-Virus Programs, and you could retry using Chrome instead of Edge.  In the event your 2024 program is not updating properly, here's how to do a Manual Update.

You may need to allow Wells Fargo Advisors in Windows Defender, but if you can get in outside TurboTax, this is probably not your issue.  However, here's more info on Editing Allowed Apps in Windows Defender..

this is NOT a browser issue.  There are two Wells Fargo integrations, one named just Wells Fargo, and one Wells Fargo Advisors.  As several individuals have stated, the WF looks as if it's going to connect, it shows which accounts have been authorized, then in the final step it throws the error that has been mentioned previously (something about trying later).  The WFA integration is broken, no easy way to say that.  You enter your credentials, TT attempts to connect and gives you a few different errors, mine usually is that I have the wrong user ID or password.  Which is not the case.

I repeat - THIS IS NOT A BROWSER ISSUE.  It's desktop integration that isn't working.  Like another user stated Bank of America works fine.

Is there any TT employee that monitors these forums and can actually help resolve the issue without spitting out unhelpful support documents on how to enter manual 1099, or investment information.  Like another user indicated, there are 100's of trades.  It's impossible to do it manually.  It needs to be fixed.

I am having the same issue with Turbo Tax application and not the browser.  I have tried multiple times and have confirmed that my userid and password are correct.  I am receiving the same error message "Response from Wells Fargo Advisors Our system is currently unavailable  Please try again later or contact us at 877-879-2495.  I have been trying every day this week.  Even updates my password to remove special character (as a suggestion the first time I called WFA).  No cache/cookies to clear with the app.  It worked fine last week when our son did his taxes.  I have too many entries to have to manually load.  I have been using turbo tax for probably 15 years with absolutely no issues until this year.  WFA states that I am entering correctly as WFA & correct userid and password.  My husband tried with his information as well and the same error message.  It appears to be a Turbo Tax issue.  Please confirm when this will be resolved so I can complete my taxes.  Thank you.

Does WF offer a reason for the 'our system is currently unavailable' message?  Have you tried turning off your anti-virus programs?  Or doing a Manual Update?

If you just can't import, you can enter a summary of each category, rather than individual transactions.  Here's instructions on How to Enter a Summary in Lieu of Individual Transactions.

Thank you for your answer Marilyn.  Unfortunately WF did not offer any explanation, indicating that it was a TT issue.  TT support did acknowledge there being an issue with the software with no current eta on a solution.  I did wind up having to enter the data and was able to enter summaries where applicable vs the itemized data. Hopefully the issue will get fixed for next year.  Thanks again !

Interestingly enough our other son just did his taxes on the software application on our computer  and had no issue downloading his tax documents from 2 accounts at WFA.  Thus it is not a cookies or virus software issue with our computer.  WfA still states that it is a TT issue.   I tried one more time before I start manually loading for all our investment accounts with WFA and am getting the same error code from TT.  Very frustrating and disappointing.  Now I will have to spend additional time manually inputting the information for various investment accounts that should automatically download.  Hope this gets resolved for next year.

Yes - although it doesn't really depend on a browser with the desktop version,  it does open a window,  depending on which WF or WFA option you pick.  I tried different browsers.  with investment accounts I was told that it should be the WFA option.  that resulted in the unavailable error. The WF option did let me log into the account and select the accounts to share with intuit as well as just the tax forms. Although it looked promising,  it failed with try again later. With all of the 1099B, DIV, INT, OID it took forever to enter.

Hi everyone,
I ran into the same frustrating error trying to import my Wells Fargo tax documents into TurboTax, but I think I found a workaround that might help.

Here’s what worked for me:

  1. Log into your Wells Fargo account
Go to the “Manage Access” section and delete access for both:

    • Intuit

    • PLAID

  2. Back in TurboTax, try importing again:

    • First, I tried importing from Wells Fargo, but it only pulled in my mortgage info—not helpful.

    • Then, I selected Wells Fargo Advisors in the import list (using the same Wells Fargo login), and it successfully pulled in my 1099-INT and 1099-DIV forms.

I was getting the same errors with the Wells Fargo Advisors option earlier, like many others here, but after removing access for Intuit and Plaid, it finally worked.

I hope this helps someone else! I had a lot to import, and since I’m impaired, entering everything manually would’ve required filing an extension. Luckily, this worked.

Good luck!

Thanks for the post and the possible workaround.  Although it didn't work for me, it did spur me to try again.  For me (and anyone reading this), if you are getting unrecognized User Name or Password when you try to connect TT to "Wells Fargo Advisors," what worked was the following.

I started to think about what changed from last year's tax filing.  Although the Wells Fargo (not the advisors) would connect, it was simply pulling a Wells Form that I was entering my credentials in.  The Wells Fargo Advisors is only connecting through the API.  Which means in plain English, TT is passing your credentials to the Advisor.  So what changed from last year?  I updated my password.

The problem is, although the password was legal for use directly with Wells Fargo, it wasn't because I had two special characters (i.e., @, !, #, $, % sort of character).  It's a legal password for WF, and other programs like Quicken allow them, so I do think it's broken on the Intuit Turbotax side.

Try to create a password between 8-32 characters, with at least 1 alpha character and 1 number and NO special characters.

It worked like a charm for me.

THIS IS STILL A TT ISSUE THAT SOMEONE IN TURBOTAX NEEDS TO ESCALATE TO TIER 2/3 SUPPORT.  ITS A DEFECT GIVEN THE FACT THAT WF ALLOWS SPECIAL CHARACTERS.  PLEASE FIX FOR NEXT YEAR

For me, once I took out special characters out of my password it worked.

@MarilynG1 - please stop suggesting people can manually enter their information from their wealth advisors. We use this for the automation.

if you have any connection to Intuit you need to advise their Tier 3 support that the API they are using with WF doesn’t allow the use of special characters in the password. Given the fact that WF allows special characters when logging in to its website, or mobile app, or with other 3rd party interfaces, I’m pretty sure it’s a TT defect that needs to be solved ASAP.

telling people to comb through a litany of 1099-DIV information and manually enter is not helpful.

Make sure your password does not have special characters. Use the Wells Fargo Advisor not the Wells Fargo integration in TT.

My guess is the difference is you have special characters in your password and your son does not. Mine worked when I removed the special characters.

Thank you for your suggestion.  However I do not have any special characters for my password.  My password was the same as last year when the download worked in TT.     I even updated my password at the recommendation of Wells Fargo and that didn’t help either.
My husband did have a special character.  He updated his password to remove the special character and still didn’t work.  It is a mystery.
