NOTE:  Updated for 2017 returns  (3/14/2018)

I've updated the original answer (which was for 2016) since the website "look" is different for the 2017 return.   Here are the current steps for a 2017 return:

  • Open your return ("Take me to my return.")
  • Once the return is past the blue-green screen, click on Search in the top right corner.
  • Enter Form 8862 without quotes and click the magnifying glass icon.
  • Choose Jump to Form 8862.

If that doesn't work for you, here's another method:

  • Go to the left menu column and click on TAX TOOLS, then choose TOOLS.
  • In the Tools window, choose TOPIC SEARCH.
  • In the search line enter Form 8862 without quotes.
  • In the selection list, choose Form 8862 and click GO.

    ******************************

[The following is the old answer from last year for the 2016 return.  The navigation method below  is no longer current.]

If you don't find it with the regular Search tool, use the Topic Search from inside MY ACCOUNT.  Here's how:

    • Log in and go to the 2016 Tax Timeline.
    • Open your return ("Take me to my return.")
    • When the return is open, click at the top on MY ACCOUNT, then choose TOOLS.
    • In the Tools window, choose TOPIC SEARCH.
    • In the search line enter Form 8862 without quotes.
    • In the selection list, choose Form 8862 and click GO.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for the Form 8962 and Form 1095-A as requested by the IRS for tax year 2019 - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/health-care/help/the-irs-is-requesting-form-8962/01/27409

Form 1095-A must be entered before the program will generate the Form 8962

This is an old already-answered thread from 2 years ago.  The steps below for the 2 methods still work for 2018, however.  I'm not sure why you are having trouble getting to that interview.

If you need additional help, you'll need to start a new thread that will show up to the whole forum as needing help.   You can use this link:
    <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/new">https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/new</a>

When you go to the form at the link, the first box is for a summary of your question, like a title, and is limited to 170 characters..  If you need more room, lower on the form you will come to another box with plenty of room to enter details.  This is a public Internet forum, so don't post any personal info.

Form 8862 must be present in the return. The e-File database indicates the taxpayer must file Form 8862 to claim American Opportunity Tax Credit after disallowance.

IF YOU DO NOT QUALIFY IT WILL NOT LET YOU EVEN IF YOU HAVE THE ERROR SAYING YOU NEED IT.  THE FIX RETURN DOES NOT WORK !!!:(

Form 8862 must be added to your return when you are claiming a credit that has previously been denied to you. Please see this IRS webpage.

You can create form 8862 with TurboTax. Open your return, then do a Search (upper right) for 8862 and click on the jump-to link (Mac users must find 8862 in the Topics List).

***NOTE*** when you type 8862, don't click on any of the suggested search parameters - just click on Enter. None of the suggested search parameters work, just 8862 by itself.

If your Earned Income Credit (EIC) was disallowed or reduced for something  other than a math or clerical error, you may need to file Form 8862 before the IRS allows you to use the credit again. Here's how to file Form 8862 in TurboTax.

      1. Sign in to TurboTax and continue to open your return.
      2. In the search box, search for 8862 and then select the Jump to link at the top of the search results.
      3. You'll come to the Earned Income Credit section. Select Continue.
      4. Answer the questions and eventually you'll be asked Do any of these uncommon situations apply? Check the box that says, I/we got a letter/notice from the IRS telling me/us to fill out an 8862 form to claim the Earned Income Credit.
      5. Select Continue and then Done.
      6. On the Since you got an IRS notice, we need to check on a few things screen, select the radio button next to No, none of these apply and I need to fill out the 8862 form.
      7. Select Continue.
      8. Answer the remaining questions.
