I am the director of a church daycare. I have a customer that is no longer enrolled that is requesting a tax statement. They have an outstanding balance. Am I legally obligated to give them a statement of payments?

We don’t give legal advice but I don’t know why you wouldn’t give a statement for any payment made or owed.

You're required to disclose your tax ID number (see the instructions for IRS Form W-10, below), but you're not required to provide statements of their payments.  Presumably the parent has their own payment records.

Yes, you are required to give the parents a completed Form W-10 on their request, but that doesn't include the amount that was paid during the year.

In addition, since this is a church daycare, you are most likely exempt and don't have a tax ID number. Follow this link to get a Form W-10.
