Form 8582: Activity Description

I keep getting the entry check error: Form 8582: Activity Description - This form is not ready to be filed due to a change in the federal form. It should be available soon. Is this an error for everyone or is it an input error on my part. I noticed that system generated errors do not necessarily point out the error for turbotax...

EDIT: I live in Maryland and have no properties. The only additional income I submitted other than my W-2 was a 1099-K that I received for transactions via PayPal. I input this information and was not prompted to go anywhere else.

The Form 8582 is available for TurboTax Online, however the IRS still has it in draft and for TurboTax CD/Download it was scheduled to be available today.  Give it a little time before trying to file.

I just spent 45 mins on the phone with 2 reps who also were very perplexed about this issue. I too reside in MD and do not own any rental income or otherwise have any condition in which this form applies to me or is required. The reps found the issue is being triggered by a 1099 form; specifically for me a 1099 MISC but not sure if other 1099 forms are also triggering the issue.

The specific form that is not yet available will be available on 2/10; the rep provided me with a link with the schedule of release for certain forms https://care-cdn.prodsupportsite.a.intuit.com/forms-availability/turbotax_md_online_individual.html

So basically nothing can be done to bypass this until then unfortunately.

According to Intuit Customer Support this is affecting many MD residents . . . you can either wait until 2/10 when the remaining MD forms are released, which may or may not correct the problem. Or 2 days from now, call Customer Support and ask for a service code to transfer your desktop edition, to an online account. These are not reporting to have the same problem as the desktop version of TurboTax. Hope this helps . . .

Sounds like Maryland is stalling instead of issuing Refunds. Not Cool. Turbo Tax give us some help......

How are you able to file Federal without filing for state?

I believe the date was 2/10/2022. See the link that was shared by one of the user mentioning dates for different availability date for MD. Let me know if it’s a different date.

When I did my taxes, it said the forms would be ready on 02/03/2022 but when I tried to e-file today the forms are still not available.

Literally EVERYONE having this problem with form 8582, ESPECIALLY if you don’t even need the form, needs to head over to TacAct because they DO NOT have the same error issue!!

I just did my taxes with them, had a 1099-k, a 1099-g, charity deductions, school tuition, and medical expenses, and did everything for $170. That’s about the same I’ve been paying for “self-employees/contractor” filing with TurboTax for the last few years. If you don’t have self employed it’ll be far less, under $100 to file.

turbo tax is flat out lying when either on the phone, here, or via social media they claim this to be a Maryland specific issue with a “form that has been updated and needed to be reissued and won’t be released till such and such date…”

IT IS NOT A MARYLAND PROBLEM, bc other tax filing programs do not have the same issue; it’s TURBO TAX.

I’d used them since the early 2000’s, too, guys, but this is sketchy bs. Time to dump them and move on.
    good luck.

Not sure if this will be helpful, but I just checked with support and they dont know the release date of when this is expected to be fixed. I was able to just file my federal return, and then I can go back in later to finalize MD. When you click on "file a return", it gives you the option to wait until later to file your MD return.

This is not a Maryland issue, it’s a TurboTax issue. After reading some of they replies I went to TaxAct to file my taxes today and everything processed straight through and has already been accepted. Do yourself a favor and file at TaxAct or with another company. This is just unacceptable on TurboTaxes behalf to make the issue seem like a State problem when it’s actually the software.
