What message are you receiving when you try to e-file the state tax return?

Have you already e-filed the federal tax return and has the IRS accepted the tax return?  The state tax return cannot be e-filed if the federal tax return has not been e-filed or if the e-filed federal return has not yet been accepted by the IRS.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for e-fling a state return after the federal return has been e-filed and accepted by the IRS - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/e-file/help/how-do-i-e-file-my-state-after-i-already-filed-my-federal/01/26811

If you are not e-filing the federal return then the state return can only be printed and mailed.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for printing a tax return for mailing - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/printing/help/how-do-i-print-and-mail-my-return-in-turbotax-online...

I can't e-file, even the Federal e-file return was accepted.  It keep bring me back on the loop to checking.  All the forms information were correctly checked or entered.  It also won't allow me to file by mail.

Try to clear your browser's cache and delete cookies. A full or corrupted cache can keep TurboTax from functioning properly. If that doesn't work, try a different browser such as Firefox if you're currently using Chrome and vice versa.

Please comment back here if that does not work for you.

After long conversation with support, we realized that the software automatically included one of the form that does not related to the tax you are filing.  Example, VA return, it included form 502A.  My business does not meet the form requirement.  Once I manually deleted the from, transmit e-file has no issue.

I hope this help.

Using TurboTax Deluxe and also unable to eFile VA State return.  Tried to eFile Federal & VA at same time and got error message even though TT checks completed without any issues being flagged.  When I tried to eFile Federal ONLY, it went through w/o any issue.   The error message I get when trying to  file VA State return is;

@JK_Carbaugh  Just for clarification, have you gone to the online menu and selected 'Check for Updates' in order to update the program?

Yes, I did, program said it was already up to date.  Exited TT & tried update again when reopened & still said up to date.  Called TT support & rep said issue was that TT created a Form 8453 for VA State return & VA won't accept that via eFile so I had to mail return.

But when I did the "Print VA State Return to file" from TT, the form 8453 wasn't even included in what I'm supposed to mail.  So, there seems to be logic error on what forms TT is creating and/or thinks are required for filing.

Also passed on to the TT rep that none of the VA state return "More Info" or help screens that I tried are populated, they come up as blank.  I tried 20+ and all were blank.  I have no idea if that has any bearing but seems to me that there is needed updates for VA state.

I asked the TT rep how I get refund of the $20 State return eFile fee I had already paid & she said she would have to check & email instructions.  Still awaiting that email.

But when I did the "Print VA State Return to file" from TT, the form 8453 wasn't even included.
