efile status not updating

I efiled 3 days ago, have received 3 email messages from TurboTax stating my efile has been rejected, on the computer software it still states efile status as pending. I spent 2 hours on the phone with customer service and they couldn't help, because it still has the status as pending I cannot generate the forms to mail the return or do anything to fix the efile and retransmit. I asked what else can be done and they had no suggestions and sent a form to fill out for a refund, well I don't have the license code so that is no good. I am so flustered with this process; I spent a better part of my day entering all the needed information for the return and now I am stuck here with no way to re e file and no way to get any refund for the turbo tax product. I have used them for years but really this is having me rethink the product. Anyone else having the same efile status update issue?

We need additional information to be able to assist you further.  Did you receive any specific rejection code in your email?  Please respond here in the thread with any other details and we will be happy to help.

Prior year AGI doesn’t match is the response. But I can’t update anything as the status will not update on the software to show it’s rejected.

There are two things you can try.  The first is to clear your cache and cookies.  These can interfere with the TurboTax software for some reason.

Here's how to clear your cache and cookies.

If that doesn't help then you can download the desktop software which allows a great deal more freedom for adjusting numbers.

Here's how to convert your online return to the desktop program.

tried the above, same results as before. I will have someone else file my taxes in person.

I'm having the same exact problem. Customer support was no help. I ended up switching to H&R Block online version and everything went smoothly.

@RobertB4444  I have the desktop version and the online version - I had to buy both because I was advised by customer support during the form 8960 debacle that this was the solution to my problem (it wasn't obviously). Anyway, I filed my taxes Monday via the desktop version. I have received acceptance emails from Federal and SC State but my IN state was rejected.  I do have an error code regarding the input from the W2. HOWEVER, I can't get the desktop version or the online version to reflect the updated e-filing status. SO, I cannot update the IN state and resubmit. Customer support was zero help - they told me to wait and it would show up correctly later today... As of now, it has not.

I tried both of your suggestions and neither worked. Any other thoughts?

I have never had so many problems with TT as I have had this year. It is so frustrating. I REALLY appreciate your help!

After many hours and phone calls with turbo tax, they were unable to do anything. I filed today with HR block in person, they found additional deductions and the process was seamless.

I don’t know who might be able to help with your IN return , that’s a very unique situation, maybe the easiest course of action would be to mail IN return, if TT can generate the forms for you. Good luck

I have received emails that returns are accepted; however, desktop status is not updating and still reflects pending. One of the acceptances was Feb 13. I have cleared my cache and cookies as indicated by another response and still no change to the efile status. I like to have my return copies with acceptance dates identified. When is this anticipated to be corrected?

I have the same problem with Deluxe Desktop with rejected federal return on 2/16. My issue caused rejection. Also, would send emails with status but not texts. Talked to a three Tech Support folks, one just kicked the can down the road, the next a bit more helpful, and the third went through clearing the cache and cookies then upon further investigation by him suggested on 2/21 it was a "known issue" and that I would get an email when it was resolved. Still waiting but hopeful.

It would be nice if the Experts that monitor these replies would confirm this.

It appears that the 3/2/2023 update corrected the problem and that the correct e-file status is showing. So, the good news is TT got it fixed, the disappointment is that it took so long. Feel sorry for any farmer who had a return due 3/1 and had the same problem.

Thank you for notification, W Big Al!!!  The latest update worked for me and now the acceptance information is available. I can successfully 'close the books' on 2022 now.

Make sure you program updated. Believe you can go to Online and Check for Updates.

I am not only updated, I've actually deleted the program - cleaned my laptop and started all over again. I have spoken to customer support for over a total of 6 hours and they still can't figure it out. They told me to mail in my return but they can't tell me what's wrong with the return that caused the rejection. SO, even mailing it in won't help me because it will still be rejected. I finally made an appointment at the local tax office and I'm going to take the "rejection return" into the office and hopefully they can help me - but I can't get in with them until the 17th....

The issue should be fixed now according to my end. Please clear your cache and cookies and update TurboTax, then reboot. Reopen your tax return file and it should update the status. If this doesn’t do the trick or there’s something else we can help you with, feel free to give us a call.

@MichaelG81 As of 7:14pmEST, It is not fixed. I have uninstalled the desktop version, run a cleaner on my laptop, cleared cache in my browser and reintalled everything including states. It still does not work. I am working on a MAC laptop - not Windows - however, this was never an issue in the past. I am completely trapped. I cannot file my Indiana return electronically with anyone else because I've already filed my federal efile with TT (And it's been accepted, so it gets rejected if I try again). I can't mail in my Indiana return because there is some sort of error that caused it to be rejected but I don't know what the error is BECAUSE TT WON'T UPDATE the filing status correctly. Believe it or not, I am now scheduled to drive from South Carolina (where I live) to Indiana to meet with a tax office representative on 3/17 to fix this mess that TT has created because otherwise, I cannot file my Indiana state tax. This is so ridiculous and costing me a small fortune in gas/hotels/etc.

@MichaelG81 I will also add that I truly think it's something connected to either MAC or my specific situation with returns. I originally had Turbotax online and support suggested I buy the desktop version, however whenever I sign into TT to go to community support, my returns still pop up in the online version AND they are also rejected. I just don't understand. They were corrected, transmitted AND accepted in the desktop version on 2/20 - I have emails (and now refunds) to prove it worked but neither the desktop version nor the online version are updating so I can correct the rejected Indiana return. And NO ONE seems to be able to help me. I have spent hours on the phone trying to fix it. It's madness.

Unfortunate that it is not working. Seems like you tried everything. You might try a possible work around if you know you rejection reason. Open the program and go to the “View” menu at the top. Click on “Forms” and select the particular form(s) with the errors. After correcting click Errors and if none, go back to “Step by Step” and click Review and then navigate to “Print/Save”. Select returns for filing. You might get E-File Postmark but include that with a note about what happened and file by Mail. You can find the addresses in the 1040 and State instructions.

Amazed at your persistence/perseverance. Assume that your user name is accurate - my family appreciates your family’s service to our Country.

@W Big Al   Thank you - Yes, name is accurate - Hubby did 22 years in submarines!

As for perseverance, it's my only option. Because TT won't update the filing status, I can't fix the forms. The email with the error status doesn't make grammatical sense, so I can't really tell what the true issue with the Indiana state return is - the support lines couldn't even tell me what is the problem. So I don't know what to fix on the state return. Support even had me send in my federal 2x but then I got a federal rejection error because I had already filed and so, that also prevents me from filing Indiana state.

Because I don't truly know what is wrong with Indiana state, I will have to go to a local office in Indiana for a personal appointment to review the return and get it filed. UNLESS TT FIXES THE FILING STATUS ERROR so I can file state only.

With that said, We live in South Carolina now so.... I have an appointment on 3/17 at a local Indiana office and will driving back, staying in a hotel and meeting with Indiana tax office to fix this colossal mess that TT has created - that will be a expensive trip between gas, meals and hotel. I've made so many posts on community and spent countless hours on tech support with zero results. I'm exhausted by this issue.

I live in IN. Did you get a Federal rejection first? I got my federal rejection then IN rejected because of federal. If you saved your return you could either just print and file and let them sort it out. I would do that before I would make a trip to IN. You could also buy another program and enter information and file by mail. Try the Forms route first on TT. There are also fill-in forms online at in.gov/dor/tax-forms/

Level 3

@W Big Al  Yes - I did get a federal rejection first BUT and the standard state rejection because the Federal was rejected. Got the Federal corrected and refiled. Then SC state and Federal were accepted and approved. Then IN was rejected a second time for:

"SCNTY-018-01 - SCNTY-018-01: Line 1A of the CT-40PNR in Section 2, SchCT40PNR/WorkCountyTaxSection/WorkIncome/Taxpayer1Amt, must not be null and greater than zero if all the following exists on IT-40PNR: A. FormIT40PNR/ReturnFormHeader/PrimaryCounty/ResidentCounty is non-Indiana county code (not 1-92), B. FormIT40PNR/ReturnFormHeader/PrimaryCounty/WorkCounty is an Indiana county code (1-92),and C. FormIT40PNR/SchA/IncomeOrLossSection/GainsLossIncome/StateAmount Indiana business income reported is greater than 0."

But no one at TT can tell me what this actually means and how to correct it. Neither can the Tax office at IN - because EVERYTHING on the form is ZERO. I've asked if I can email or fax or even zoom with IN but that's a no-go for privacy reasons. They told me I could mail it in with the errors and it will get rejected, sent back with suggested correc tions BUT they said that will take months to make happen. I just want my refund.

I spoke with H&R Block and TaxAct but neither will file state only - you have to file federal first then state with them - but my federal will get rejected because I've already filed it with TT and then once it's rejected, it automatically rejects IN state.

It's like a big circle of rejections that can only be corrected with a software correction. I feel like I get on this hamster wheel every day.

But, as it stands right now, I will be spending a 1K of my refund heading to IN to get it corrected unless I can get TT SOFTWARE SUPPORT to get a fix done. Honestly, I keep trying every day and will continue to do so untl it's either fixed or it's the 16th when I have to start driving.
