Do I need to file my taxes again since I forgot to include my social security income and they are not correct .

I tried to file my income taxes online myself but I had gone through taxact and I thought it was turbotax so it says it has to be mailed in but I forgot to include my social security I get each month so what do I need to do, file them again and disregard the previous one filed?

If you have already filed your return then yes you will need to file an amended return.

Use Form 1040X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return.

Be advised – you can’t e-file an amended return. A paper form must be mailed in.

TurboTax can guide you through this

Well, if you used TurboTax you could not have e-filed the 2023 tax return if your Social Security number was not entered on the tax return.

How did you file the return?

@caswift1761 You filed your tax return but forgot to enter your SSA1099?  If the IRS accepted your return you will have to wait until it has been fully processed and then amend to add your Social Security benefits.  Do not amend until the IRS has processed the return you already filed.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-change-correct-return-a...

When you amend:

Go to Federal> Wages & Income>>Retirement Plans and Social Security  (SSA1099 and 1099RRB) to enter your SSA1099.

@xmasbaby0 Great catch.  I missed the part about "income".

The IRS is accomplished at noticing that SS recipient did not list that income on 1040.

The will add the amount and send you a bill or adjust your refund.
