You should include ALL of your 1099s with your tax return.  Do you have a 1099 that you forgot to enter or need to enter?  If so, what kind of 1099?

If you have not already e-filed, you can go back into the return and add the information from the SSA-1099 form.

Follow these directions.

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
  • Click on Income & Expenses.
  • Under Your income and expenses, scroll down to Retirement Plans.  Click Show more.
  • Click Start to the right of Social Security.
  • Answer the questions.

After you are finished, you can re-print your tax return.  See here.

A couple of things:

1.)  Check this chart and make sure that you are required to file a tax return before you go through the steps below.  You may not be required file, and if you are not required to file, you can forgo this entire process...

2.)  If you are required to file and you have not yet mailed your return, follow the instructions in this link.  They will get you back into your return so that you can add your 1099.  If you are required to file and you add the 1099, you will be able to e-file by following the instructions in the link.   You can only do this if you have NOT mailed in your return yet!!
