Can you see the dropdown menus under Edit/Online/Tools, etc.? If you can't see dropdown menus under the other links at the top, you could try uninstalling/re-installing TurboTax to see if your issue resolves.
Here's more info on Troubleshooting TurboTax Desktop Issues, or you can Contact TurboTax Support for more help.
I haven't tried filing yet, and won't for a few weeks
BUT
Mine (Desktop Windows 11, Premier) freezes during one of the last final Review/Summary steps....right after refusing Audit Protection
IF I leave it alone and do something else for a while...seems like forever...it finally unfreezes.
Started a stopwatch: 1min 10 sec ...just sitting waiting...clicking on "Continue" multiple times didn't help. Have no idea what it's doing.
So try just waiting impatiently, go check email or something.
YEP NUTS !
Hi. My copy of Deluxe 2024 on Windows 10 does the exact same thing as SteamTrain. Spent quite a while on phone support today using Intuit's ScreenShare to troubleshoot with agent. Did all the obvious* - unfortunately nothing solved the issue. I hope this is fixed before I (we) actually want to file. Can just imagine the mess if it hangs while submitting taxes to IRS.
*restarted program running as administrator
*logged out/into TurboTax
*turned off AV
*downloaded software direct from Intuit website then
*un-installed/reinstalled from new download
I had this issue, and I just waited for a couple minutes and it unfroze on it's own.
That worked for someone else too in a different post reporting the same issue.
When it freezes, go get a soda, or brush your teeth, clean up your email folders.....and try to time it to see how long it takes....IF it works.
Annoying, but a possible way around it, at least for now......but yeah, no promises from me.
I'm seeing the same issue as SteamTrain and cfrashme52 using Desktop TurboTax 2024 Deluxe on Windows 10.
It freezes for about 1 minute after the last step on the Review/Summary or if you click on the File tab.
It does eventually come back and I was able to print the return. I'd rather not submit returns having this issue.
I tested it a bit by starting a new return and discovered the delay issue begins once a Social Security Number is added in the personal info section.
Thanks @SteamTrain & @FastTaxUser
Hope Intuit gets this sorted soon!
Same issue as reported above. I have it installed on my Desktop (Win 11) and Laptop (Win 10). THIS is a problem and needs to be fixed ASAP.
I have the same freeze issue! Not only at "FILE" area but other areas too, like "review" and "ready to file area".. I used TurboTax for years and I don't want to see it freeze when I file. TurboTax needs to correct this before I file!
I agree. I've been using Turbotax for years and have never had a problem with it. I wonder if there is a way to submit bugs to them?
I'm having the same issue and have been hoping for an update to fix it, without success for a week. I guess there is no way to submit a bug report as all paths lead to this community support area. As one other user reported, waiting a while tends to resolve. I went away, got a cup of tea and sat reading for abut 20 minutes, When I returned, Turbotax has moved on, and I proceeded to e-file. Disconcerting and unusual after more than a decade of using Turbotax without incident.
Same Problem here as many have posted. Deluxe 2024 version on Windows 10 freezes during the "review/Summary" after declining audit protection. Program never comes back - have sent report logs to Microsoft. Intuit may want to check with Microsoft on program log failures. Can't file taxes.... Hope resolved soon!
I was able to press continue once and wait about a minute and the program kicked back in.
I've started a chat with an agent on Messenger regarding this issue. He asked for a description of the problem and photo of monitor screen. I submitted a pretty detailed explanation of my experience (see earlier post) and screen shot of "hung" software with mark-ups showing spinning blue "waiting" icon and the "Not responding" message in top title bar that I get.
Also mentioned this thread in the forum.
Will share any info I receive with the Community.
Fingers crossed...
A quick update: Intuit Support agent on Messenger advised me to uninstall/re-install Turbotax.
That did not fix the issue. I sent them that follow-up, asked for additional suggestions and mentioned our posts on this forum. 🤞🏻
Great job, hopefully this will get resolved soon.
To all software vendors, please remove the "Uninstall and Reinstall the software" from your support staff's list of solutions to recommend to customers. IT rarely works and sometimes causes more harm or slows up the real resolution.
Support staff should be aware of the number of customers reporting the same issue and not assume a problem is a one person issue. I wished there was a method of getting this feedback to Intuit.
My prgram is also doing the same. I have tried many times and stuck.
Software updates are usually issued only on Wed or Thursday evenings...rarely any time of the week sooner.
You can try an update on Friday, and see if it changes, but I suspect it might be another week or two (3?) before they can track the reason for the Freeze.
.....but who knows, maybe it was a simple fix and by Friday might work properly again.
Waiting seems to work. I haven't started to file yet -- need to double-check some things -- but at least it got me past the "File" freeze. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the tip!
(I had no problem with other parts of the process until I got to the "File" tab.)
Same exact behavior on my new Windows 11 laptop. Click twice, TTX crashes. Click once, wait a few minutes, and TTX proceeds to the next screen (of the FILE step).
Worked with several support agents over the past day or so. Unfortunately, none of their troubleshooting suggestions worked for me. Looks like we may be on our own on this one. Hopefully, someone at Intuit will catch onto this problem we're having, acknowledge it and offer a resolution.
